Paying tribute to his father TIMES NEWS NETWORK As the festivities of the 35th IFFI run high in Goa, one person untouched by the hullabaloo is filmmaker Karan Johar. Staying at the Aguada beach, Karan is busy completing the script for his next film. However, on Thursday, Karan surfaced from his hidey-hole to pay tribute to his father Yash Johar in a retrospective section at the IFFI. "It's a very emotional moment for me. Showcasing my father's achievement is a matter of great honour and pride," says Karan. Since his father's demise, life hasn't been the same for the young filmmaker. "Life's taken a 360 degree turn for me. I discovered responsibilities that I never knew existed," he explains. "I sleep with anxiety and wake up with fear because there are lot of expectations." Karan is grateful to a few people who he says supported him through his ups and downs. He counts the Chopras, the Bachchans, Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan and the Ambanis among those who stood by him. "In fact, Anil Ambani helped me with my investments" he recalls. Busy with his next production, Kaal, Karan doesn't agree that he has tasted only success. "Failure's not an alien concept for me. I've seen the emotional and financial failures that dad went through when his movies flopped. Success is a phase, just a step away from failure." *** laters,

IFFI pays a tribute to Yash Johar Sandesh Prabhudesai in Panaji | December 03, 2004 16:16 IST The ongoing 35th International Film Festival of India witnessed an emotional moment on December 2, when Amitabh Bachchan inaugurated the Indian Retrospective section by paying tribute to the late Yash Johar. "Yashji was a brilliant filmmaker. But more than that he was a great human being," Big B said, as he recalled how Johar had always helped people in distress in the film industry. The IFFI will screen five Yash Johar productions – Dostana, Agneepath, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho. While Amitabh starred in three of these films (Dostana, Agneepath and K3G), he received his first National Award for Agneepath. "Yashji gifted the industry with several good films. But his greatest gift to us is Karan, who is following his father's footsteps with sensitivity and talent," Amitabh said, amidst applause. "It's a moment of mixed feelings for me," Karan said. "I am happy that my father is being honoured. But I also feel sad as it brings back memories of my father." Photograph: Rajtilak Naik *** ![]() laters,
