really i lose faith in any award ceremony since a talent like kajol wasn't awarded in star screen award, and gifa. i mean her performance for fanaa was the best performance of 2006. i don't say this because i'm her fan but because it's obvious for anyone even for other actresses fans.
now, i can expect any actress to win maybe rani for her role in kank or ash since a talent like kajol and her perfformance were denied. believe me i won't be shocked i said i lose faith in any award ceremony.

Well, so far in each and every award ceremony, theres change in best actress category....
Be it, Priyanka, Rani, Bipasha and Kareena, they got it at different functions... The two most biggest award shows are remaining... FILMFARE and IIFA... I do hope the judges and the fans be fair as far as best actress is concerned...
I hope FILMFARE / IIFA wont go to Ayesha Takia in Dhoom or else Aishwarya in Dhoom II
and Kajol is complately ignored, despite shes the real winner in all the awards...
But thats only a hope... I lost my faith in the awards now...
But keep voting for Kajol for Film Fare guys... Film fare awards are usually "fair"... I hope this year they remain being "fair" as well...

No it wasnt live!!! believe me!!! this year too, we might have 1-2 hrs difference, i dont think they would show it live... but it would be exclusive... u know all the ads, their break on stage... its not possible...!!!:hmmm: But yes its good to watch the show without knowing the winners!!! Totally stunned that SRK is nominated for best actor. This was a bad year for him all his performances got negative critiques. And although i like him, the critiques were absolutley right!!!! Aamir deserved the two nominations for Fanaa and Rang de. And Ajay also deserved one for Omkara.

Nominations for the 52nd Filmfare awards are out and certainly purchased by big shots of the industry before hand. Filmfare in India is equivalent of Oscars in the US and BAFTA in the UK. I do not agree with the final contenders of the awards, hence, a review.

Best Film nominations:

Lage Raho Munnabhai
Rang De Basanti

Apart from Krrish (Due to the concept and appeal and being the 1st true Superhero of Bollywood), Lage raho Munnabhai (No questions about it!) and Rang De Basanti (The best of the decade), no other movie which is nominated deserves to be in this category.

Answer this: WHY on earth 'Omkara' is not on the list? 'DOR', 'Khosla ka Ghosla', 'Woh Lamhe' or 'Gangster' seems to be avoided! One of a kind 'Vivah' which deserves a nomination is also forgotten completely.

Don is a remake, nothing original and was too long. Dhoom 2 had a wrong message integrated in it and if Yashraj were paying for the nominations, they should have chosen Fanna instead. Kabhi Alvida Na
Kehena (Are you kidding man!) was the most senseless film I have seen in recent times!

Disappointing! When Technology takes over the director's seat the nominations for humans can be avoided. Dhoom-2 and Krrish for the best direction is a hard candy to swallow! Where as without nomination, Mohit Suri's best work till date and maturity of handling the sensitive topic in 'Woh Lamhe' was the talk of the town and same goes for Anurag 'Gangster' Basu is left on the streets to die. Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Corporate' is another example and one is Dibakar Banerjee's 'Khosla ka Ghosla'.

For the first time we saw a new way of storytelling through Shirish Kunder in 'Jaan-e-mann', where he missed?

Let us not talk about 'Dor', 'Fanna', 'Vivah', 'Kabul Express' and 'Pyaar ke side effects'.

Karan Johar is okay for the nomination but should not win! The best options are Rakesh Mehera or Vishal Bharadwaj. Though, Rajkumar Hirani is giving them tough competition.

Let's say, The Gandhi from Munnabhai was convincing enough? Or Alok Nath from 'Vivah' was not netural enough to get water in your eyes? What about the Akshay of 'Jaan-e-Mann'?

They say comedy is a serious game! Circuit from Munnabhai is a cult character now but had a little to do when Mahatma Gandhi himself was starring in the same film. Not just Chunkey Pandey but all the characters were overshadowed by the one and only Ritesh Deshmukh in 'Apna Sapna Money Money'. Paresh from 'Phir hera Pheri' was run-of-the-mill and Golmaal was never meant to be for a healthy comedy.

So here are we left with some worst combination of nominees possible for the best award!

Her we go with Shreyas Talpade from 'Dor', Akshay and Govinda from 'Bhagambhag', Akshay from 'Jaan-e-Mann', Ranveer Shouri from 'PKSE' and 'Mixed Doubles', Uday Chopra from 'Dhoom 2', Amitabh Bachhan from 'KANK', Rietesh Deshmukh from 'ASMM', Deepak Dobrial from 'Omkara', Paresh Raval for 'Chup Chup Ke' and the one and only Rajpal Yadav for the same film 'Chup Chup Ke'.

Saif is my all time favorite for this award. He is going to win this for sure. Rest all are just cancellations. Apart from Comedy, this is the only category without any nomination from 'Kabhi Alvida na kehna', isn't it saying something?

On the other hand, the Musical which was 'Jaan-e-Mann' needed the nomination for the first ever opera style execution for a motion picture in India with some good melodies inside too!

So are we really considering Himesh Reshamiya's 'Aksar' work as Ghost Raising? Was his album better then the soulful melodies and some chartbusters from 'Omkara' or 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' or of the folk-art of 'DOR'? Pritam's 'Ankahi' is his best till date but also has got no place on the list.

And finally...

WHO on earth in his true state of mind can nominate 'Dhoom 2' in the best music category over 'Bas Ek Pal', 'Gangster', 'Pyaar ke side effects' and 'Woh Lamhe'! These four albums rocked the sales and charts for months and still hot favorites and much better then Dhoom 2's non-melodic sounds. And did someone say 'Taxi no. 9211'?

From the rest of the lot, A R Rahman (Rang De Basanti) is a sure winner of the nominated lot. Jatin-Lalit's Fanaa is an interesting choice as the legendary duo had a last laugh with this score. And finally Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna) had got a nomination which should remain a nomination because no great shakes for the score of KANK. They should win for 'Salaam-e-Ishq' next year!

Apart from these most popular categories, there are several more categories and everywhere you see the proofs of biased-ness of the Filmfare and the Times group can be seen.

Will they give ‘Jaan-e-Mann’ for best Background Score or Best Editing or Best Choreography?

This is the time when Filmfare should standup on its own feet and TOI should implement the 'India Poised' campaign here also.

What about Aamir for 'Fanna'? Ajay for 'Omkara'? Salmaan in 'Jaan-e-Mann'? Shiney Ahuja in 'Gangster' and 'Woh Lamhe'?

Did someone see the movie 'PKSE'? It was a very good film.

Abhishek was never in form in 'KANK'. Amitabh's Sexy Sam was a comedy. John was wooden in 'Baabul'. Only the nominations from RDB are worthwhile. But tell me was the part played by Atul Kulkarni or Madhavan or Sharman Joshi in RDB doesn't well enough for nomination?

Let's say, The Gandhi from Munnabhai was convincing enough? Or Alok Nath from 'Vivah' was not netural enough to get water in your eyes? What about the Akshay of 'Jaan-e-Mann'?

They say comedy is a serious game! Circuit from Munnabhai is a cult character now but had a little to do when Mahatma Gandhi himself was starring in the same film. Not just Chunkey Pandey but all the characters were overshadowed by the one and only Ritesh Deshmukh in 'Apna Sapna Money Money'. Paresh from 'Phir hera Pheri' was run-of-the-mill and Golmaal was never meant to be for a healthy comedy.

So here are we left with some worst combination of nominees possible for the best award!

Her we go with Shreyas Talpade from 'Dor', Akshay and Govinda from 'Bhagambhag', Akshay from 'Jaan-e-Mann', Ranveer Shouri from 'PKSE' and 'Mixed Doubles', Uday Chopra from 'Dhoom 2', Amitabh Bachhan from 'KANK', Rietesh Deshmukh from 'ASMM', Deepak Dobrial from 'Omkara', Paresh Raval for 'Chup Chup Ke' and the one and only Rajpal Yadav for the same film 'Chup Chup Ke'.

'Don' is nominated but 2 of it's tracks were used same as were in the ol'70's film and title track was made-up from the background score or the theme music of the old film. So where is creativity? On the other hand, the Musical which was 'Jaan-e-Mann' needed the nomination for the first ever opera style execution for a motion picture in India with some good melodies inside too!

So are we really considering Himesh Reshamiya's 'Aksar' work as Ghost Raising? Was his album better then the soulful melodies and some chartbusters from 'Omkara' or 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' or of the folk-art of 'DOR'? Pritam's 'Ankahi' is his best till date but also has got no place on the list.

And finally...

WHO on earth in his true state of mind can nominate 'Dhoom 2' in the best music category over 'Bas Ek Pal', 'Gangster', 'Pyaar ke side effects' and 'Woh Lamhe'! These four albums rocked the sales and charts for months and still hot favorites and much better then Dhoom 2's non-melodic sounds. And did someone say 'Taxi no. 9211'?

From the rest of the lot, A R Rahman (Rang De Basanti) is a sure winner of the nominated lot. Jatin-Lalit's Fanaa is an interesting choice as the legendary duo had a last laugh with this score. And finally Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna) had got a nomination which should remain a nomination because no great shakes for the score of KANK. They should win for 'Salaam-e-Ishq' next year!

Apart from these most popular categories, there are several more categories and everywhere you see the proofs of biased-ness of the Filmfare and the Times group can be seen.

Will they give ‘Jaan-e-Mann’ for best Background Score or Best Editing or Best Choreography?

This is the time when Filmfare should standup on its own feet and TOI should implement the 'India Poised' campaign here also.

MUMBAI: The 52nd Fair One Filmfare Awards will don a new avatar this year a la the Oscars. The awards will be telecast on Sony on 25 February at 7:30 pm.
On 24 February, Filmfare Awards sponsored by Elder Pharmaceutical, along with associate sponsors Bisleri and Ashrafi Finance will hold this annual award night at the Yash Raj Films' Studio, exclusively for the film fraternity. Nominations for the awards have also been announced.

The awards event which started in 1954 has been a public event with performances by the stars until now. This year World Wide Media, the company which owns the title decided to make the event a black tie affair taking off from the Oscars. This year the annual awards night will be held at an indoor venue exclusively for the film fraternity.

Guwahati, Feb. 21: Assam did it for Debojit Saha. Now it is going all out to help Zubeen Garg achieve what no other singer in the Northeast has got — the Filmfare award for best singer.
Thousands are joining a massive SMS and e-mail campaign to vote for Zubeen, who has been nominated for the best playback singer award in the prestigious Filmfare Awards for his Ya Ali from the Bollywood blockbuster Gangster. The award is the Bollywood version of the Oscars.
Mobile companies have started an SMS campaign, urging music lovers to log onto the website www.filmfare.com to vote for Zubeen through the Internet.
“Expectations are quite high and let’s see what happens at the awards function,” Zubeen told The Telegraph from Mumbai. “I am hoping for the best,” he added on a confident note.
Zubeen will also perform Ya Ali at the awards function slated for February 24 in Mumbai.
The expectations of fans combined with Zubeen’s confidence are not unfounded. He was recently adjudged the new musical sensation (best playback singer male) for his chartbuster Ya Ali at the Kenstar Setmax Stardust film awards. He also won the best singer award for the number at the Global Indian Film awards in Malaysia last year.
The Assam chapter of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has made a written appeal to all the leading mobile companies operating in the state to launch an SMS campaign for the state’s numero uno singer. NSUI president Bibhuti Barthakur said mobile companies have been approached to begin an SMS campaign urging the music lovers of Assam to vote for Zubeen through the Internet.
Fans, of course, need no further encouragement. “I have voted for Zubeen and request you to do the same,” college student Shikha Kakoti said.
Hailing from the Upper Assam town of Jorhat, Zubeen burst onto the state’s music scene in 1991 with his debut album Anamika and has since established himself as the music idol of the state.
Zubeen, who is also a music composer and an actor, has so far sung more than 7,000 songs in various languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Oriya, Marathi and Nepali.
Some of the Bollywood films for which he has rendered his voice include Fizaa, Kante, Mudda, Brides Wanted, Gangster and Pyaar Ke Side Effects. He also composed the music for the Sanjay Jha-directed Hindi film Strings.

When we read about Hrithik's illness in the papers just a day before his performance for the 52nd Fair One Filmfare Awards, 2006, we were wondering how the star would be able to perform. However, the moment Hrithik entered dressed in black body-hugging suit we forgot all our worries. Here was Hrithik with just as much Dhoom in him as ever before.

The performances of the ace dancer went off brilliantly, with Hrithik getting the sequence correct in just one take most of the time. But the dancers of Shiamak's troupe were equally a dream to watch with vivid outfits that looked stunning on perfectly sculptured bodies. Hrithik reviewed each performance of his on the screen and only okayed the takes when he was satisfied. In one incident, he wasn't too happy with a shot and told the light guys to black out everyone on stage but himself. It was done the change in effect was dramatic!

During another seqeunce Hrithik couldn't get his breakdance perfect as there wasn't enough friction on the stage. An assistant scraped the soles of his shoes with a knife to give him a better grip, but Hrithik would not perform till he had Pepsi. The Pepsi was brought, but far from drinking it, Hrithik poured it on the studio floor and stepped into it. The sticky nature of the cola gave him enough grip for a great performance!

Hrithik's first performance was his trademark ' Ek pal ka jeena' from Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, followed by 'Main hoon don', from Don. He also performed to 'Dhoom machale'. But 'Rock n roll soniye', which he has performed with kids was by far the most endearing. About 50 youngsters dressed in bright orange saris and black suits put their best foot forward along with Hrithik in this number.

The associate sponsors are Bisleri and Ashrafi Finance. The television partner is Sony Television.

As the stunning Sridevi mounted the grand dazzling sets of the Yashraj Studio to rehearse for the 52nd Fair One Filmfare Awards, 2006, there was a buzz in the air. What was it that got the gorgeous actress who quit the industry after marrying filmmaker Boney Kapoor out of her self-imposed exile?

“This Filmfare will go down in history for its novelty. It’s different and will always be special. But more importantly, it felt like regular shooting, with the unit and the crew. I may be a dancer, but to perform in front of hundreds of people live is still a daunting task. I am glad that I was dancing only for the camera without being scrutinised by a live audience. That’s so intimidating,” smiled a slim and trim Sri changing into a Manish Malhotra costume for her next performance.

“Moreover, for each song the set and costume is changed. I am doing it, but doing it in style,” she laughed. Shiamak Davar is choreographing the performances. “I have been rehearsing, but very little. As I love dancing, even after 15 years it wasn’t difficult to get into rhythm,” she explained.
There’s a whirlwind of activity at Yashraj’s. Today is the big day. Vans, cameras, people and rehearsals of the film star seem to have taken over the otherwise, quiet studio. The venue may have shifted to this hi-tech sprawling place with the capacity for about 700 select guests, but the essence of the Fair One Filmfare Awards, 2006, with Bollywood badshah Shah Rukh Khan as the emcee, will certainly push the razzmatazz a notch higher. Even the performances that have been restricted to only six, including Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukherji, Bipasha Basu, Amrita Rao and A R Rahman, have created a buzz.

“My last film was Judaai. That was ten years ago. But it’s 15 years that I’ve been out. More than me, my daughters and husband Boney are excited. My daughters are seeing me do this for the first time, and they are so thrilled. Jahnavi has been recording all my moves on camera,” said Sri.
She’s performing four songs, a tandav rhythm and song from Chandni, and two numbers from Chaalbaaz, and Jaanbaaz respectively. Sri’s graceful movements have found life again. As Manish Malhotra put it, “She’s taken it from where she left 15 years ago. Ma’am’s beauty and dance have been untouched by time. She should think of making a comeback.”

There will be no live performances this year, but Hrithik Roshan, Sridevi, Amrita Rao, Rani Mukherjee and Bipasha Basu have recorded performances which will be shown during the telecast of the awards on the small screen. However, A R Rahman will be performing live during the event.

Amrita Rao reveals, “I must say it's an honour to be performing at Filmfare and I am so happy that I have got the opportunity this year. In fact, it's my very first performance for Filmfare.” About her performance, Amrita further adds, “We are doing different eras this time and I am doing the 50s and the 60s.”

As for Sridevi, who is literally making a comeback with the Filmfare Awards, she informs, “I am doing songs from the 80s and I am really happy to be a part of this show, I am very excited.”

Dharmesh Darshan has just walked in. He’s wearing a smart churidar kurta. “I have designed it myself,” informs the director. He has arrived with a young actor Dilip who is yet to make his debut. Is Dharmesh Darshan playing mentor? We’ll know soon enough when the announcement comes, won’t we? For now DD is keeping things under wraps!

Choreographer turned director Farah Khan has just walked in. She’s being interviewed by the media, and jokes that, “Shah Rukh has been nominated, so I am here on work!”

We don’t see the Deadly Dutt quite often, but looks like even he couldn’t miss out on the most happening event of the year. Dutt’s been nominated in the Best Actor category for ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, and we’re sure he’s nervous about whether he’ll clinch this one or not. Keep praying Sanjay! Incidentally, we hear the next film in the Munnabhai series is already well under way and this one is titled ‘Munnabhai Chale Amrika’. We’re looking forward to this one.

Kunal Kapoor has walked in. He’s been nominated in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category for ‘Rang De Basanti’ this year. He’s dressed in a jacket, and a white shirt and tie. His long hair neatly tucked back.

Also in blue this evening is the stunning Bipasha Basu, with a glittering diamond brooch on her shoulder. She’s looking simply gorgeous. She’s been nominated in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role catergory for ‘Corporate’. John obviously wasn’t able to accompany her – he’s busy with his film ‘Water’s nomination for the Oscar in the meanwhile. We hear he’s feeling lonely without Bips, and vice versa. Together or not, this couple is definitely a winner.

Hrithik Roshan has arrived along with wife Suzanne and dad Rakesh Roshan. Hrithik has two nominations in the Best Actor category – for ‘Dhoom 2’ and ‘Krrish’. He’s also performed for the awards, and his act will be telecast with the Awards event on the small screen.

Rani Mukherjee has made an appearance and she’s looking superb dressed in a beautiful black sari and a green blouse.

Boman Irani and Kunal Kapoor are seen sharing jokes even while Soha and the other RDB stars chat up...

Kirron Kher walks in and asked about Filmfare Awards’ new avatar, she replies, “It’s very refreshing. This should have happened much earlier.”

Ask Aishwarya about how she’s feeling about her own nomination in the Best Actress category for ‘Dhoom 2’ and Abhishek & Amitabh’s nomination in the Best Actor in a Supporting role category for the same film ‘KANK’ and she replies, “It’s a wonderful evening. It’s all in the family and I’m looking forward to the evening.”

When asked whether the FairOne Filmfare Awards will carry off its new avatar with success, Amitabh Bachchan replies, “Why not?”

Shah Rukh, the host for the evening, and Karan Johar are at their witty best. They’re keeping the crowd entertained with their banter.

Rani is looking great. When asked who had designed her outfit, she replies, “Anuradha Vakil has designed my clothes.” Ask her whom she’s rooting for among the Best Actor nominees and she replies, “It’s difficult to choose - but I think it’s going to be a tough fight between Aamir and Shah Rukh! They’re my favourites.”
