Neal N Nikki
I saw the movie, just got back!
Vulgarity? There was NONE! Taran Adarsh is BEYOND me, calling it the most vulgar film ever or whatever, he's talking crap! The film is CUTE, nothing about it is vulgar. They show nothing extreme...to be honest, Salaam Namaste 'showed' A LOT MORE than this! Neal N Nikki was so cute, I mean when they 'had it' they didn't show anything, they just show them waking up in the morning like in Hum Tum... People need to wake up, 'coz Neal N Nikki is far from vulgar.
Story was good, I thought it'd be a load of garbage but it was a great story in my opinion and the screenplay was brilliant... When I heard the movie was short I was like hmm that's not fair hehe BUT in the end I realise why. The screenplay was just perfect and the movie NEVER dragged! It was tight, to the point and basically great!
In Comparison to the other YRF films this year It's a way better film than Bunty Aur Babli and Salaam|Namaste ANY DAY! I enjoyed it far more than those movies. Those two (BAB/SN) were alright but they both had only good first halfs, their second halfs were weak! Neal N Nikki is entertaining the entire way through.
Kissing There were not so many kisses like exaggerated... One quick peck, and two proper longass kisses lol... The two 'long ones', agreed, were a bit too longgishh and made me awkward watching them...
Family viewing? If you can watch Salaam|Namaste with your family, then there is NO problem what-so-ever watching this with your family.
Music & Background Music Salim-Suleiman are the Gods of the music industry in India for me now for sure...! The songs rocked and the background score was outstanding! I loved the way the old songs were remixed like in the credits, and at the beginning of the engagement in the climax...
Costumes were not as bad as I thought they were going to be. Uday's clothes were brilliant, he's one of the best dressed actors no doubt. Tanisha was dressed ok, a couple of her outfits were just silly coz she was exposing for no reason at times, but sometimes her outfits were pretty too.
Songs Picturisation Vaibhavi Merchant is a good song-director, and she does well again... Halla Re was picturised alright... The title song was shot fantastic... I'm In Love was awesome... Akh Ladiye was good too... All the songs moved the film forward, the songs did not come as 'loo breaks', they were helpful to the story especially the title song and Im In Love...
Comments on the 'filmi puns' I just loved that comic thingy on DDLJ in the title song... How sweet! It really touched my heart! I know it sounds weird to say that but DDLJ is my favourite film and seeing something like that with Kajol's sister and Uday (who is like Shah Rukh so much) was so emotional and cute! And haha when Tanisha was showing Uday the filmi clips on his laptop... When she showed him Amitabh in Silsila and she was like 'but you and Amitabhs song nah' and then she showed him Rishi in Chandni, I think that was all so cute! and of course all the background music they played from various older films (even Mohabbatein lol) was cute!
Gurneal Alluwaliah & Nikitta Bakshi Both characters were extremely well sketched... And I think things like the costumes etc really added value to the characters, they were apt for the characters... I mean yes Tanisha exposed a bit too much with the bras and all hehe BUT I think it did help picture Nikki's character better...Both were such CUUUTTE characters!
PERFORMANCES
Uday Chopra stole the show! If anyone can do comedy, it's him! I swear I love this guy so much... From Mohabbatein till now, he always gives such perfect performances, I love him so so much! He is my Mr Cute n Adorable, my Magic Man, my Jaanu, my Vicky and of course MY Neal! Uday - you'll always be my only rockstar and superstar! hehe... Awesome performance... The film was totally upon his shoulders and his only, he carried it so well... No one, and I mean no one, could have played this character with such perfection! I love Neal!
Tanisha Mukerji I wish this was her debut. She wasn't very good, but it still launched her in a new way, projecting her as someone with potential for the future... I think she's improved a lot now and with time I hope she improves even more... She has high expectations 'coz she's the sister of Kajol and cousin of Rani, she has a lot to live up to... I don't know if she can reach their standards, but she can do very well... She's sweet and given the right oppertunities (eg; given Yash Raj Films lol) she can go extremely far...She just needs the right people who know how to control and project her!
Abhishek Bachchan in his very special appearance rocked! I love this dude and I am so happy Adi Chopra always takes him, I think it's so kool and so sweet! I hope Abhi is always always always in every Adi Chopra production, always! His dialogue was so naughty but nice haha!
Richa Pollad was gorgeous! She is so cute! I loved her outfit in Akh Ladiye a lot!
Gaurav Gehra (Jassi's Nandu!) was cute! I was disappointed about his role being so small, but he was quite funny and and cute, was really nice to see him!
Others were great too, but the film was mainly a two-people-show... and both Neal N Nikki lived their characters so well, for those two-ish hours they WERE Neal and Nikki, very apt castings, and that is why Adi Chopra is Adi Chopra, he knows exactly who to cast where and when!
Overall Verdict...! It's December, the last month of the year... My Top 5 Of 2005 (1) Black (2) Parineeta (3) Lucky (4) Kyon Ki (5) Socha Na Tha & Neal N Nikki.... I LOVED Neal N Nikki! Oh my days, I have no clue as to why some people didn't like it...! I don't see how you couldn't have enjoyed it...It was SO much fun! One of my favourite movies of the year... I really can't wait to get the DVD!
End message The film is nice and naughty! It is cute (how I wanted it to be) not vulgar. So please don't get put off the film just coz you think it's gonna be vulgar, it's NOT... it's cute and happening...I LOVED it and I'm sure lots of other people have/will too!
