Cinegoers couldn't have had it better. The talented twosome, Aamir Khan & Kajol are going to star in Hum Tum director Kunal Kohli's forthcoming film. Kajol who had taken a self-imposed sanyas after her baby girl Nyasa's birth has green-signaled Kunal's project. The powerhouse performer was to star in Karan Johar's next. But since the shooting schedule would ask a two-month outdoor stint away from her daughter, the dotting mother opted out.

Good news for Aamir fans too, as the super-selective star has signed up for the film. Aamir Khan who has been sporting a handlebar moustache for his role in The Rising okayed the script instantly which Kunal says will be a mature love story. Few know that Aamir was the first choice for Hum Tum, which was later played by Saif Ali Khan. Besides these two films, Aamir will be also seen in Ketan Mehta's Rang de Basanti.

Surprise, surprise! Aamir Khan, who is known to choose his films after much deliberation, has just signed another film.

Departing from his one-film-every-three-years unofficial policy Aamir will be doing director Kunal Kohli's film, his third after The Rising by Ketan Mehta and Rang De Basanti by Rakesh Mehra.

While the other two films have the potential to take Aamir to an international audience, Kohli's film is apparently a straightforward love story, just like his two previous films - the flop Mujhse Dosti Karogi and Hum Tum, released this year which surprised everyone by turning into a success.

For better or for worse, Aamir has acquired the label of Mr Exclusive. So much so that he reportedly kept John Matthew Mathan on hold for almost a year before he finally said no to the director's second venture.

After Lagaan, Aamir claimed the first film he'd sign would be the project he was committed to do for AB Corp Ltd. But he signed Ketan Mehta's The Rising for a staggering Rs.70 million.
Then suddenly there was Rakesh Mehra, last visible in the cinemas with his much-hyped but finally unsuccessful Aks, who signed Aamir for Rang De Basanti in English and Hindi.

For an actor like Aamir what could be the reason to pick a film by Kohli, and that too as his third project in a year?

That fact that Kohli's film is being produced by the prestigious Yash Chopra banner could have influenced Aamir's unexpected decision.

Many years ago, Chopra had offered Aamir Darr. It was the role that Shah Rukh Khan finally did and which carried him to a new level in his career. Aamir had said no because apparently Chopra had refused to give him a joint narration of the script along with the film's other leading man Sunny Deol.

It seems a little harsh to presume that Aamir chooses projects where he can have the final say. But yes, he has repeatedly said in the past that he likes to offer creative collaborative inputs if and when directors want them.

With Aamir Khan back into the Yash Raj camp [DARR was initially offered to Aamir, but he opted out subsequently] with Kunal Kohli's forthcoming film, talk is gaining momentum that the film will co-star Aishwarya Rai as the leading lady.
The talk gained credence when Ash warmly welcomed Yash and his wife Pamela Chopra at the

star-studded premiere of BRIDE AND PREJUDICE at Fame Malad, Mumbai over a month ago. That must've set the gossip mills on fire!

“It's completely untrue,” Kunal denies it outright when this writer calls to crosscheck the development, “Ash hasn't been approached for the film. Nor have I even met her at a party for people to jump to conclusions.”

Please continue. “We are in the process of finalizing the leading lady, but it's definitely not Ash,” Kunal reiterates. The film, he says, will roll some time in June/July 2005. “Aamir will take a one-month break after RANG DE BASANTI. We also hope to spend time in the intervening period, discussing the script, et al, before we embark on the filming.”

Kunal says that the actual date of the launch will be decided later. “We've yet to lock the dates,” he adds.

Kajol and Aamir paired

It is a casting coup of sorts. For the first time, Kajol and Aamir Khan will be paired together in Kunal Kohli’s film, that goes on floor shortly. Both Kajol and Aamir were impressed by Kohli’s script. “Kajol has agreed to do the film. Other details are being worked out,” reveals an insider of Yashraj films. Aamir Khan has always been Kohli’s favourite actor and was to feature in his last hit Hum Tum. But Aamir turned down the offer due to “personal reasons”.

Speculations about Kajol comeback were being made when Karan Johar announced his next directorial venture. Kajol almost signed Johar’s film, but had reservations about shooting abroad for two months. “She opted out because she couldn’t afford to stay away from her baby girl for two months,” said Johar. The film also marks Aamir’s return to masala Bollywood films. Aamir has been looking for a change of image after Lagaan and The Rising; so it’s quite understandable why he jumped at Kohli’s offer.

Dusky actress Kajol is finally ending her sabbatical from Bollywood and has given her consent to act in Kunal Kohli’s next film opposite Aamir Khan .

After his hit movie Hum Tum , Kunal Kohli seems to be working on some impressive script. It was not for nothing that the highly choosy Aamir immediately agreed to do Kunal’s film after reading the script.




And now, Kajol, who has been in hibernation for a long time after her baby girl Nyasa's birth, too has given her consent to act in the yet untitled movie.

Kajol was earlier approached for a Karan Johar project, but she declined to act in it because working in the movie on an outdoor shoot would have kept her away from her daughter.

But she has agreed to Kunal’s movie with Aamir because she was reportedly ‘impressed by the movie’s script.’

Although not much is known about Kunal’s movie, it is being described as a mature love story.

Kajol and Aamir have earlier acted together in Indra Kumar’s Ishq, but never as a pair.

Here is a good news for Kajol fans. The actress has agreed to appear in Kunal Kohli's forthcoming film with Aamir Khan. Certainly she has given a jolt to Shahrukh with this decision.

Kajol, one of the most talented actresses of Bollywood took pre-matured retirement and got busy with her family and daughter. Designer directors like Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali tried to cajole her into acting, in vain.

According to the sources she has okayed the project. Supposedly, she was going to make a come back with good friend Karan Johar's next. But she turned down the offer for some practical reasons.

For the first time Aamir and Kajol will grace the screen as a couple. Fans are hoping that the twosome develop a stimulating on-screen chemistry.

It's a known fact that the super-selective actor Aamir avoids working with good actresses - hence signing a film with Kajol comes as a surprise for the critics.

Kunal wanted to cast Aamir Khan in his directorial debut Hum Tum but it was Saif Ali Khan who played the main lead in the film.

I agree! I love Shahrukh and Kajol tremendously and I want them to pair up again in the near future but at this moment in Bollywood, a change in pairings is needed! Especially in Shahrukh's case! I swear! There are enough of Shahrukh with Preity, Shahrukh with Rani, blah, blah, blah! Except for Swades, please pair Shahrukh with a different actress for once! As for Aamir and Kajol! I had faith in Amir-Kajol's potential for so long now, that I got breathless, speechless, and nervous when I first heard the news. At one point, I had thought this team would be impossible, after remarks supposedly passed by Amir on Kajol post ISHQ.

For true Kajolites, there shouldn't be any doubt on the success of Amir Kajol pairing. As for me, after exhausting all Kajol's movies, she even looked smashing with Parbhu Deva in Sapnay....

Kajol's teaming with one of the best actors in the region is my wish come true. The fact that they both thought long and hard about teaming up gives me a comfort that they are both professional and there are merits in Kunal's untitled script.

Now I only hope, for the good of Hindi movies, Kunal will maximize both of their talents to come up with a memorable film in recent years. Even if the story fails, which is unlikely, Amir Kajol scenes at least will not fail us, I am very confident.

BTW, do you wonder how much Yash Raj have to pay these two ...??? I don't think they come cheap, and Yash Raj shouldn't pay cheap either as we are talking about explosive talents in these two.... I will pay the HKD500 to watch this movie anytime.... (in HK, Hindi shows are not plenty, reserved only for big banners movies, and we have to pay from HKD200 to HKD500 (USD25 to USD65) for the movies. So far, I only paid HKD200 to watch a few seconds of Kajol in Kal Ho Naa Ho!!) :banghead:

I am thinking of that too Kara, but along the money matters... Well, I wonder if Kunal would have sleepless nights now tirst day of shooting and maybe a nervous breakdown on that day before he recovers his surprise of signing his favorite actors.

One thing for sure, many big time directors are currently envious of Kunal for having achieved this feat. And I bet Kunal manged to convince Yash Raj to pay Amir and Kajol's fees because he has Hum Tum now under his belt. Maybe some cut in his director's fees...??

The movie in my signature is ISHQ, the only movie Kajol and Aamir had ever starred together. No, they're not real siblings in the movie. Aamir is bestfriend of Ajay, who loves Kajal. Thus Aamir declares Kajal his sister... The movie is a comedy, but the highlights of the movie are all the scenes between Aamir and Kajol. Their confrontational and emotional scenes really moved the audience.

Those were the scenes that made me so confident this dream cast will rock the movie world in 2006.... :wink:

The duo have signed yet another film together, to be produced by Yashraj Films.

The film will be directed by debutant Siddharth Anand, who assisted Kunal Kohli on the hit, Hum Tum.

Yet untitled, the new venture will be a romantic comedy.

I don't know where to put this but here it is.
A thought just occured to me while I was thinking about this new film. Some people might get offended but please don't. This is just something I thought of and it strikes me as being a possiblity.
Well,there is a topic in this forum about Kajol's future plans and someone said that they had heard that Kajol was trying to "gracefully" leave Bollywood.
Well, this occured to me that maybe Kajol knows that if she doesn't star in Karan's film with Shahrukh and stars in a film with a lesser known (though not totally unknown) actor (such as Aamir) then she will lose fans and publicity giving her an excuse to leave Bollywood.
Please feel free to contradict me if you feel I am wrong but please keep in my I don't mean this personally and it just strikes me as something that could be possible.

im not sure if i understood you correctly or not but this is what i gotta say from my understanding of your statement...no...thats not the case...foremost...she never did left bollywood...she took some time off to start a family...it has been repeated in her interviews, articles and so forth that she took up acting as a hobby...not as a profession...so im not surprise or will go :somad: :banghead: and so on if she ever stop acting...whether she says it straight out to everyone and the fans or whatever the case may be...but of course...eventually...she will leave bollywood for good one day...not that i want her to leave...i want her to stay forever...even if its just a cameo in one film per so and so many years :wink:...

Sorry, but i dont agree with u at all.. if thats the reason y kajol is leaving bollywood....then ur wroong... then y would an actor like AAMIR KHAN agree to do the film?? its simply coz may be the script or the storyline was amazing! .... and how can she decide how the movie is gonna do?... i think its gonna be a Huge Hit than KKHH or K3G! i disagree...i think she accepted this film cuz it interested her and its something different...it doesnt matter who...every celebrity wants positive out come for each film that they did with admiration and effort...so im sure kajol will give all her best in this upcoming film just like she did in all of her previous films...with the first time pairing of aamir and kajol...two of the best in bollywood...what more is there to ask for...nothing from me at least...

Yeah I guess you guys are right. I didn't doubt that Kajol would give her best in this or any movie she signs but this was just crazy thought that I thought could be a possiblity. But I can't help but feel a little disspointed and wonderous as to why she refused Veer Zaara with SRK.

Aamir Khan is ready to take on Bollywood and crossover cinema by the scruff of its neck with a film like The Rising. He follows it up with a film with Rakesh Mehra and one more with Yashraj Films. We met the actor in a candid mood… and talked about history, historicals and his future…

Excerpts from an interview...

Why did you take on a film like The Rising after doing films like Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai?
Basically I liked the script of the film. I was intrigued by the incidents that took place such a long time ago. I could identify with it in today’s context. The East India Company came to India for purposes of trade and then took over the nation. The United States of America is doing similar things today. They did that with Vietnam and alter with Iraq. The basic concept of Mangal Pandey alias The Rising is about Freedom.

What we call as the 1857’s Indian War of Independence or the National Uprising is deemed as the Sepoy Mutiny by the British. What are you trying to say through the film Are you trying to set history right?
See, In India we have never had the tradition of writing thing properly in the history books. Whatever has taken place has been through word of mouth. Matter of fact being that we do not have a single photograph of Mangal Pandey in our archives. We have taken stuff that ahs been written down in the history books and then borrowed from stories that have been coming up by word of mouth. Historical documents on Mangal Pandey are very limited and that was one problem that both director Ketan Mehta and writer Farookh Dhondy had when they started work on the film. Hence it was decided to keep Mangal Pandey as a part of all the events happening around that time. It was a time of awakening at that juncture. People wanted reforms. They wanted a break and freedom from the East India Company. So everyone was asking questions and Mangal Pandey was the voice. Everyone wanted explanations for the activities of the East India Company and the kind of activities that they were into.

Do you think that there will be many more historicals following Mangal Pandey?
I do not know whether there would be a spate of historicals after Mangal Pandey. We have done what we had to do in a very realistic manner and have worked sincerely on the film. I do not know whether these kind of projects work or not. It depends on how the audiences react to this film. Only then will I be able to tell you whether similar films will be made.

Why are you having such a huge gap between your films? Is the hibernation a deliberate one?
I know that there should not be much of gap between films. But it thus happened that The Rising took a while in the making. It is not an easy film to do. Dil Chahta Hai followed soon after Lagaan and there has been a long hiatus after that. Normally I do not have much gap between my films, but in this case it was inevitable. I was going through turmoil in my personal life and thus could not concentrate on my films. Filmmaking is a very tedious process, which needs a lot of concentration. That is why I could not do any film for a while. After I decide to do any film, it takes around eight months of pre-production, a similar time for the shooting and some more time for the film to be ready. Thus it takes around two years for a film to be ready if it has me acting in it. So, coming to the point, I do not do more than one film at a time. Usually, I start shooting for the other films when I finish one and this could not be possible. From now on, I should have a release very eight months. I am starting my next film in January 2005.

Are you being extra choosy?
It is not that I have deliberately being too choosy. But it is jus that the films are also coming in slowly. It is not that I have had to do a big project. I got the offer for Mangal Pandey which was a big project on its own. I didn’t make it into a big film. I have it in my mind to do all kinds of movies. I want to do many roles.

A lot of filmmakers don’t come to you thinking that you would only do big projects. Is that true?
Not at all. In fact I want to do all kinds of movies. I am prepared to do every kind of film. If I listen to a film and it touches my heart I shall do it. It doesn’t matter if it is small film or a big one. I want to do small films, romantic comedies etc. But I need a role like that and need to be moved by the role as well. I am also doing one more romantic film now. That will be after I do Rakesh Mehra’s film Rang De Basanti alias Paint it Yellow. It is a film for Yashraj, directed by Kunal Kohli and has Kajol in it. If anyone has a good role and wants me to do it I am game, if the director can move me with his story.
