Did you know that actor Ajay Devgan is a better cook than his wife Kajol?

The actress may have been one of the best in the business before career took a backseat to marriage and daughter Nysa, but she is certainly not the best in the kitchen!

Though she recently inaugurated a store called Kitchen Concepts in Mumbai, Kajol claims that she has never learnt cooking till date. "My mother [actress Tanuja, extreme left] never pushed me into the kitchen when I was younger," she said. "So all I learnt was to boil water and make salads. Even then, I used to burn the salads.

"If I needed tea before marriage in the middle of the night, I would tell Tanisha, my younger sister [right] to make it. I am bad with fire because I usually burn everything.

But Kajol said that if she has a kitchen like the ones the store promises, she just might learn cooking! "It is a very practical kitchen," she remarked, "as knives, spoons, and plates are properly placed. It makes things easier."

Ajay spends more time in the kitchen than I do, and is a good cook," Kajol admitted. "He experiments a lot. He makes amazing mutton and kheema.

"I only make salads for him, which usually get burnt. My father [Shomu Mukherjee] is a Bengali and my mother, a Maharashtrian. So I have tasted food from both these regions before marriage.

"Now, I am married to a Punjabi so I get to taste food that is pan-Indian. I keep trying all kinds of food because of this pan-Indian family connection!" Kajol said.

Kajol's year-old daughter Nysa has desi tastes, Mama Devgan said. "She loves roti, chicken and rice. I don't know what tastes she will develop later.

"I enjoy motherhood. It is the best thing that has happened to me. It has taken me [to a level] where I have always wanted to be in life. I clean nappies! I cannot tell you how interesting life has become!"

If you leave aside a five-second appearance in good friend Karan Johar's production Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kajol's last film was Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, for which she won numerous awards.

"After I quit acting, I have a lot of time to read," she said. "I read all kinds of futuristic fantasy fiction. I find them very interesting. If people ask me which is my best novel, I'll say it's yet to be published! Recently, I have read all the Harry Potter books and I loved them all.

Kajol admitted that she has been looking at film scripts. "But I have not said yes to any," she said. "I am not sure whether I will do a film in future. But one thing is certain. If I do, it will be completely on my terms.

"People ask me whether Tanisha and I will ever come together in a film. I don't know what the future holds for us. I can only say that right now, I have no plans to do any film."

That is a very disappointing quote, and this is as recent as June 5th. Times like this I wish I was a fan of some other actress other than Kajol as she can be very frustrating with her actions. Anyway, I will give her the benefit of doubt and keep my hopes alive for the Karan Johar project.

Hey, I like your choice of actresses. Is Shobana the one who acted as the mom in the movie MITR ? She did an awesome job.
*Actually I liked Sridevi in her Tamil movies like Moondram Pirai, Varumayin Neeram Sivappu, Roja and others ( she was so natural), but felt she had such affected expressions with a very fake childlike voice in her hindi movies ( IMHO = In my humble opinion ).
