Main Hoon Na - By Taran Adarsh

Nasir Husain meets Karan Johar. That, in a nutshell, is MAIN HOON NA, which marks the directorial debut of accomplished choreographer Farah Khan.

Don't expect crossover, path-breaking or art cinema, in keeping with the changing times. MAIN HOON NA is not DIL CHAHTA HAI or KAL HO NAA HO either.

MAIN HOON NA is Bollywood hardcore commercial cinema at its best. It has just about everything for everyone -

Songs to soothe your nerves.
Emotions aplenty for the tender hearted.
College campus romance holding tremendous appeal for the youth.
Desi humour for the Hindustani janta to break into peals of laughter.
Stunts to thrill those who feel Bollywood is incomplete without them.
And yes, it also has the Indo-Pak friendship issue - so topical in today's times [there's no sermonizing or jingoism, thankfully!].
MAIN HOON NA has everything desi about it, except of course the packaging is very videshi. The soul is Indian, the exterior western.

MAIN HOON NA works and how!

Major Ram Sharma [Shah Rukh Khan] yearns to see the ambitious project Mission Milaap become a reality. A mission that will prove to be the dawn of a new tomorrow. Where long-standing enmity between two countries [India, Pakistan] will begin to see its end.

But some forces do not want that dawn to come. One of them is Raghavan [Suniel Shetty], who will do anything to prevent the strategic move. For this reason his devious shadow looms large over General Amarjeet Bakshi's daughter Sanjana [Amrita Rao], whose life is in danger.

But Ram will not allow dark actions to eclipse its bright future. To protect Sanjana, he goes to her college as a student. Here, fun and frolic conceal his real intent.

Will anyone here guess that he has just lit the funeral pyre of his martyr father Brigadier Shekhar Sharma [Naseeruddin Shah]? Ram also has to fulfil his father's last wish.

Strangely, the fulfilment of his wish also lies in this very college. Completing this mission will be no easy task, for it involves intense emotions and long-standing misunderstandings.

These two missions are now his life-blood. The weapon of one mission is gun and that of the other is love…

Loosely based on Alan Metter's BACK TO SCHOOL [1986], MAIN HOON NA is one roller coaster ride that brings back memories of the 1970s cinema, when non-stop entertainment was the mantra of accomplished film-makers like Nasir Husain and Manmohan Desai.

Farah Khan seems inspired by the cinema of yore. She has penned a story not targeting those who wear their thinking caps while watching a film, but those who enter a cinema hall for unadulterated, paisa vasool entertainment. Where logic takes a backseat and all that matters is three hours of non-stop entertainment.

Her target audience is the hardcore masses and it shows at the very start of the film.

Farah Khan bares the three vital issues at the very start of the film: The Indo-Pak friendship issue and how the terrorists want to foil it, the father-son track and the estranged family [Naseeruddin Shah-SRK/Kiron Kher-Zayed Khan] and guarding a vulnerable teenager from the terrorists even if it means joining her college as a student [SRK-Amrita Rao].

But the actual fun begins when the protagonist joins the college and the sequences that follow. Though a number of college campus fares have been attempted post-KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI, you could hardly count the films that really stayed with you even after the show concluded.

MAIN HOON NA has some thoroughly enjoyable moments in the first half. There's a college principal with a weak memory , there's a professor who can't get her pronunciations right [Bindu], there's another professor who spits every time he opens his mouth [Satish Shah] and of course, there's a new chemistry teacher who would give any Bollywood actress a run for her money [Sushmita Sen].

Besides, the narrative is laced with incidents that are clapworthy. Like the sequence when SRK rescues Zayed from falling off the roof or the MATRIX-like effect when Satish Shah confronts SRK in the professors' room.

If the first half has its share of fun and frolic, Farah Khan changes gears in the post-interval portions, when the focus shifts to the terrorists and their mission. Though the second half has several thrilling moments, the pace drops slightly because soon after the interval, the story stagnates but picks up with gusto when the terrorist [Suniel Shetty] enters the premises as the new professor.

The pace further gathers momentum when the estranged family [Kiron Kher, Zayed Khan] learns of SRK's true identity. Even the climax, though prolonged, is brilliantly executed, especially the violent confrontation between SRK and Shetty.

Farah Khan makes a sensational debut. Of course, she always knew the technicalities of film-making right, but her abilities come to the fore while filming the emotional moments. The sequences between Kiron Kher and SRK were akin to an examination for Farah because in moments like those the focal point is the emotional quotient and whether it strikes a chord or not. These moments clearly indicate that Farah knows her job well and if, in future, she attempts an emotional saga, she would be adept in handling that genre as well.

Another factor that needs to be illustrated is the fact that every actor, irrespective of his/her box-office status, has been given prominence in this enterprise, in keeping with his/her character. Although the super-star has produced this project, Farah doesn't go overboard in making him loom large in every frame.

Sequences like Zayed's emotional outburst - when the youngster does all the talking, while SRK remains a mute spectator or the violent confrontation between SRK and Shetty in the climax - when Shetty overpowers SRK, clearly indicates that the director knows where to draw the line. She hasn't gone fanatical in projecting SRK as a larger-than-life persona!

Farah also deserves marks for keeping the audience interest alive, courtesy her screenplay, where she shares the credit with Rajesh Sathi and Abbas Tyrewala. There are no loose ends in the film, barring the one reel soon after the interval, when the pace slackens slightly.

Anu Malik's music is a major asset. And the icing on the cake is that every song has been filmed amazingly. The pick of the lot is 'Tumse Milke Dil Ka' [filmed on Zayed-Amrita; a small portion on SRK-Sushmita], which in fact is one amongst the best songs of the year. The orchestration of this number is magical and Sonu Nigam's rendition is first-rate. The title track as well as 'Gori Gori' and 'Chale Jaise Hawayein' are three more gems, in terms of tune as well as execution.

Cinematography [V. Manikandan] is top class. Not only has the lensman made the characters look fabulous, every frame of the enterprise has been given a glossy look. Dialogues [Abbas Tyrewala] are fantastic. In fact, the writer is in form yet again, after MUNNABHAI M.B.B.S. Stunts [Allan Amin] can easily match international quality and the usage of effects only enhances the outcome. Editing [Shirish Kunder] is perfect. Effects [Rajtaru] are outstanding.

Now to the performances!

MAIN HOON NA reinforces your confidence in SRK, the actor, the star. Portraying a mass-appealing character, the actor gives his best shot and delivers yet another power-packed performance. The role not only does full justice to his status as the country's super-star, but also as a performer. Besides, the two stunts in the film [his introduction and towards the finale] will silence his hardcore critics who felt that the actor was more comfortable handling the D.D.L.J., KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI and KAL HO NAA HO kind of roles.

Another performance that stands out is that of Zayed Khan. The actor, who seemed awkward in his debut film, is in full form in his second film. With this performance, Zayed takes a giant leap as a performer. Besides, his scenes with SRK depict his growth as an actor.

Sushmita Sen looks like a million bucks and her on-screen chemistry with SRK is fantastic. In fact, one wonders why the two hadn't been paired earlier! As for her performance, her role doesn't really demand histrionics, but she carries it off stylishly.

Amrita Rao is another revelation. After a miniscule role in MASTI, the actress comes into form in MAIN HOON NA. She gets ample scope to display a wide variety of emotions and she more than lives up to the occasion.

Suniel Shetty is fantastic as the terrorist. His get-up and performance both add to the sinister intentions of the character. Kiron Kher is fantastic yet again. This is another performance [after DEVDAS] that is sure to win her plaudits. Naseeruddin Shah is alright in a small, but significant role. Kabir Bedi is equally commendable.

Boman Irani's role is simply lovable, confirming the fact that he's an actor with an amazing range. Satish Shah is superb. He is sure to bring the house down with his brand of humour. Bindu is a pleasure to watch after a hiatus. Murli Sharma [Khan] is another actor who stands out in a brief role.

On the whole, MAIN HOON NA reinforces your faith in Bollywood commercial cinema. The film is a wholesome entertainer that has something for everyone. At the box-office, this keenly anticipated fare is sure to set new records in days to come, confirming the super-star status of SRK yet again and heralding the arrival of another talented director - Farah Khan.

Seems like a very entertaining movie, definitely will watch it this weekend if the Indian theatre is able to get its act together and screen it. SRK is great at comedy and looking forward to the SRK- Sushmita chemistry too, I am so sick of Rani hogging the limelight with SRK and frankly don't see anything happening with Preity. So I prefer that SRK shares a good one with Sush rather than the current lot. This movie looks like a super-hit from Taran's review.

By: Mayank Shekhar
April 30, 2004

*YUCK **WHATEVER ***GOOD ****SUPER *****AWESOME

Naah!
MAIN HOON NA**
Dir: Farah Khan
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan

Debutant Farah Khan attempts Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol 1 with Main Hoon Na. Except Tarantino’s homage concerned cinema that only the former video store clerk had grown up on (Shaw Brothers’ martial-arts, yakuza-samurai, Spaghetti Westerns and playful animation), hence the sheer novelty quotient of his cut-n-paste film, which by and large worked.

Khan, on a similar mode, puts together a tribute to ‘masala’ potboilers, which this nation’s film-going audience has thrived on for almost three and half decades, and still does.

Homage then, with few exhilarating moments and fewer embellishments (unless hackneyed Matrix action sequences be counted as one), makes the entire compendium seem unwarranted, uninteresting, unintelligent and eventually not even consistently pretty, and bloody tiring.

On to the questionable story line: an under-cover Army Major (Shah Rukh) revisits college as a student in bellbottoms (a 70’s fashion — not when the Major was a collegian) to protect the Indian General’s daughter (Amrita Rao — sorrowful screen presence).

This professional mission doubles up as a personal one, as the Major is on the lookout for his flunky step-bro (Zayed Khan — someone, please take this primate back to the wilds) who studies in the same zoo.

All good, before we analyse the picture’s prominent premise: an organisation headed by an ex-officer (Suniel Shetty — good lord!http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink2.gif who opposes the Army Chief’s decision to hand over 50 innocent Pakistani tresspassers.

So the ex-officer, with deadly guns and gadgetry plans to hold the General’s daughter to ransom, and I have a small question: Who are these guys? How do they operate? Who funds a ‘patriotic terrorist group’ to save India, from the Indian Army?

And what was I watching but a full-on, emotionally detached action pic that bites off way more that it can chew: the cult of the mother, brother, father, teenage ‘n’ adult romance and then bits willfully impossible for gumption — Shah Rukh bumping off ‘terrorists’ in a SUV while his cycle rickshaw somersaults in mid-air (shot frozen), or bullets the size of basketballs forever in slo-mo.

The only touch of chemistry is the love number between the Major and his Chemistry teacher (Sushmita Sen). The only character worth note is a forgetful principal (Boman Irani). For other mentionables, watch the promo.

For unfortunately trifle attention is paid anywhere else in this unabashedly narcissistic enterprise that solely revolves around Shah Rukh Khan — the charmer, the lover boy, the dutiful son, the qawwal and the immortal action hero (which he certainly doesn’t look).

Given choreographer turned filmmaker Khan’s fulsome resume, one would’ve expected a memorable musical on the lines of Nasir Hussain’s Hum Kisise Kum Nahin (that she gives a nod to through songs here).

What we’ve gotten instead is a soulless, senseless, schizoid acknowledgement of a genre that definitely doesn’t deserve any.

<font color='#348781'>Main Hoon Na: A little bit of everything- Rediff Review

You enter the darkened auditorium to watch Farah Khan's directorial debut Main Hoon Na with a lot of hope.

You get a lot too. Here's what you get:

College romance, forgetful principal, a professor who spits, another who speaks bizarre English, a terrorist in the garb of a Hindi teacher, a professor who wears designer saris and makes hearts go aflutter.

Brother Ram trying to get back stepbrother Laxman, Brother Ram trying to save girl in distress, India and Pakistan wanting to be friends by releasing 50 prisoners each, a terrorist named Raghavan trying to thwart this event by killing an Indian general's daughter, Ram rising to the event.

Plus song and dance, and R D Burman songs used as background music.

Anything you want in a film, you get here in the three hours and two minutes of Main Hoon Na.

The first half is fun with the college capers and some interestingly done background music by Ranjit Barot and Shah Rukh Khan bursting into song every time he sees Sushmita Sen -- in spite of the loose pacing.

The second half, however, gets convoluted when the threat of Raghavan is forgotten for a while as family matters of reunion take precedence. Once that is sorted, we move into the action zone.

Did I mention there is lots to see in this film? Director Farah Khan seems to have taken pretty much every film ingredient she can lay her hands on, put it into a blender, and churned out a movie. The churning results in some parts that are finely meshed and some that remain chunky.

It is good, however, to see Khan levelling the playing field and having enough action to challenge the most hardcore action directors. It is straight out of Matrix, with a dash of Jackie Chan.

Performance-wise, Shah Rukh Khan is Shah Rukh Khan. Just the same you saw ten years ago.

Sushmita Sen is a revelation as she steals the thunder from the much younger Amrita Rao.

Rao is pretty much modelled on Christina Aguilera -- chunky jewellery, nose rings, frayed denims et al. In the second half her character can best be described as Aguilera meets Indian woman. She remains bubbly and effervescent, as her role requires her to be.

Zayed Khan gets a poor bargain in a role into which he tries to put everything he has got, ending up with a charming performance. Suniel Shetty has a stylish beginning, but ends up lacklustre.

This being one of Boman Irani's earliest films, there is not much you can see of him. Satish Shah and Bindu are competent.

Watching MHN is like ordering everything on the menu: You like some, you don't like some.

Actually, If I remember correctly, Indian actually did great business... So said Sunny Deol! http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Anywayz... moving on to Main Hoon Na!

Taran has given it a good Review and Rediff have given a Bad review!

but I dont really care... I just care for my review.. and I dont care what these minority of people say... the advance booking speaks volumes itself regarding how well Main Hoon Na is going to do...

and regarding Main Hoon Na being a mish mash of this and that... well i think some people are forgetting what to expect when they enter the cinema... it has been told to us again and again and again that main hoon na is a typical desi entertainer not an oscar nominee  The movie is going to be a great entertaining experience!

this movie is going to be a major hit, and i know it... no one has a command over the BO like SRK does..

then the Aamir Khan lovers will come and say that BO status means nothing... and just coz a movie is a hit doesnt mean its good... yeah right whatever... just because AK movies dont do so well at the BO they have to say that... http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif HAHA!

only good movies will do well at the BO... otherwise why would people keep and watching it? i wouldnt see the logic behind that? :???:

Oh Brother!
DEEPA GAHLOT | Friday, April 30, 2004 14:31:0 IST

Farah Khan's Main Hoon Na is not a 'female director picture'-which may be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on one's point of view. *The 'gaze' is definitely 'male' - again good or bad depending on who's watching. *But what is definitely a good thing is that Farah Khan is the first Indian female director, who has been able to make an expensive mainstream movie, *and maybe, opened the doors a crack for other talented women, who had been pushed into the 'women's picture' ghetto. *So, if one female can out-Karan the Johar, *so can others! *
The beginning of the film with father (Naseeruddin Shah) telling son (Shah Rukh Khan) about another wife and son is right out of a Mahesh Bhatt film. *Now Ram has to look for his Laxman in a Darjeeling college.
The very contrived reason for Major Ram (Khan) to join college as a student, is to protect a General's (Kabir Bedi) daughter Sanjana (Amrita Rao), who, for the sake of script convenience hates her father and won't accept regular bodyguards. *The girl is in danger from a mad terrorist Raghavan (Suniel Shetty), who wants to stop the General's Indo-Pak friendship bid.
The missing Laxman or Lucky (Zayed Khan) is also in the same college, so it's all tied up. The college, of course, is a typical Hindi film chocolate box, where everyone sings, dances and parties-and no wonder, considering all the teachers are crazy-including absent-minded principal (Boman Irani-hilarious!http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink2.gif.
Most of the movie is taken up by Ram's attempts to befriend Lucky and his stern mother (Kirron Kher), and his very cute romance with the chemistry teacher (Sushmita Sen), who dresses in chiffon saris and backless blouses! *Of course, *when she is in Ram's fantasies, she wears very little!
Funnily, Sanjna wants to attract Lucky by looking 'feminine' and copies the teacher's style-though all along she was prancing in college in very tiny tops and not looking in the least tomboyish!
Somewhere down the line, way after the interval, the director remembers there is a terrorist angle to deal with-Sunil Shetty and gang have also been cooling their heels in Darjeeling- so the film hurtles towards a hasty climax.
Farah Khan's handling of emotional scenes (the father-son, mother-son number) is inept, her politics are totally awry (a Hindu armyman-turned-militant, trying to stop Indo-Pak peace?-never heard of such a specimen!http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink2.gif But where the director is bang-on is in the comic romantic scenes, fabulously performed by Shah Rukh Khan; of course the songs are well picturized (all except the title song which has Ram crooning Main hoon na to Laxman!http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink2.gif, since that is Farah's speciality. *
The action (Allan Amin) scenes have their highpoints - like when Ram stops the killing of an innocent student and then chases the terrorists in a cycle rickshaw! *Total masala stuff! *Khan peppers the film with tributes to popular Hindi films through songs and little in-gags.
The highs are high the lows are very low, but on the whole Main Hoon Na is fun. *Shah Rukh Khan's high energy performance outshines all the rest, only Sushmita Sen (note the funny seduction scene), Boman Irani, *and to an extent Zayed Khan manage to shine under the *star's blinding glare.

Main Hoon Na
At: Eros and other cinemas
Directed by Farah Khan
With: Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Zayed Khan, Amrita Rao, Suniel Shetty, Boman Irani

Rating: *3 STAR.

MAIN HOON NA- * Great Entertainer, Must watch for all
Friday, April 30, 2004

By: Sumana Vishwanath

Cast: Shahrukh Khan, Susmita Sen, Suniel Shetty, Zayed Khan, Amrita Rao, Kiron Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Satish Shah and Karan Johar
Music: Anu Malik
Producer: Gauri Khan
Dir: Farah Khan

Lets stop thinking for a while. Three hours of non-stop entertainment without logic, is what MAIN HOON NA is all about. Farah Khan's debut directorial venture comes with a lot of promise. Well if you are expecting magic, then let me tell you that though this film rises above expectation it does not reach the level of Karan Johar or Farhan Akhtar's film. Yet here is something you will love. MAIN HOON NA is a desi product in a videsi get up...

Major Ram Sharma (SRK) is on an operation known as Mission Milaap. Will this mission be a reality is what the entire film is about. One aim of this mission is to start the end of Indo-Pak animosity. But then there are forces which wont let him do so. One such force is Raghavan (Suneil Shetty). He will do anything to prevent this milaap. He targets General Amarjeet Bakshi's daughter Sanjana (Amrita Rao). Ram is here to protect Sanjana. For this he joins college. Here starts all the fun.

The film commences with amusing sequences and changes momentum post interval. With lithe Farah moves the fun into thrill when terrorists are shown in the campus. Excitement heightens when Raghavan joins the college as new professor. The climax of the film has been dragged a little. Nevertheless it has the necessary punch.

MAIN HOON NA has its moments. Something's which you will remember even after you walk out of the theater are the scene where SRK saves Zayed Khan from falling off the roof. And how Satish Shah confronts SRK in professor's room.

Performance wise this is another feather on SRK's cap. He has silenced the critics who said that King Khan does the same type of roles again and again. Muscle man Suniel Shetty is another surprise in this film. This man is simply superb as a terrorist. His new getup accentuates his character in the film.

Sushmita Sen looks fantabulous. Her style and that grace are simply mind-blowing. Amrita Rao is another promising star on the block. In MASTI she was okay, but here she emotes well. Coming to Zayed Khan, he has definitely grown as an actor. Shortly this Khan will give the other Khan's a stiff competition.

Bomman Irani as the college principal with a weak memory proves that he is an excellent performer. There's Bindu who plays the role of a professor who can't get her pronunciations right, needless to say that she is superb. Satish Shah as a professor who spits every time he opens his mouth and Kiron Kher as a mother have more than lived up to the occasion.

Musically Anu Mallik's tunes just gels well along with the film. All tunes are top class. V Manikandan's cinematography is awesome. Abbas Tyrewala's dialogues are good. Farah Khan has done a great job. One has to watch MAIN HOON NA to know how talented she is. Though the movie sans logic, it is a great entertainer. A superb film MAIN HOON NA is a must watch for all.

Main Hoon Na - so?
PARUL GUPTA
TIMESOFINDIA.COM[ FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 2004 07:01:22 PM ]

Film: Main Hoon Na
Director: Farah Khan
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Zayed Khan, Sushmita Sen, Amrita Rao

Rating: **1/2

Though the film's title belongs to Shah Rukh Khan, it could well be any of the star cast saying it for the movie. For, minus the stars and a bit of stylised content, there isn't a lot it offers.

&nbsp;

To save his boss's daughter, Major Ram Prasad (SRK) goes to a Darjeeling college as an undercover army man. His dual purpose mission also involves finding his half brother, who also studies at the same college, where students perpetually wear yellows and oranges and keep dancing in the lawns.

&nbsp;

Laxman (Zayed) is the hyper kid brother who seems to have strolled on to the sets straight from a Goa rave, high on cocaine, low on sense. Sushmita Sen, the sexy halter-neck-wearing school teacher, is there to justify the singing and dancing. Amrita Rao is … well, there too, along with some cartoon characters in the Riverdale High-like campus.

&nbsp;

Like the physics teacher who spits every time he opens his mouth, and could put a Bollywood film villain to shame with his thunderous laughter that leaves you reaching for the hankie.

&nbsp;

Then, there's a Punjabi-speaking, sweater-knitting teacher who gets on the verge of an orgasm every time she comes close to the male species. Among the caricatures, even a fine actor like Boman Irani – who plays the Harry Potter-reading absent-minded principal -- is wasted.

&nbsp;

With SRK around, mawkishness couldn't be far behind. He shifts in with his father's other family to find their love, much like Hrithik Roshan does in Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham .

&nbsp;

Farah Khan intersperses some quirky over-the-top action scenes – like Khan chasing a jeep on a cycle rickshaw – to make it funny, but the fun is as banal as the rest of the film. But for the qawaali, Anu Malik's music doesn't add much to the fare.

Unabashed entertainment, 1970s style

Sukanya Verma | April 30, 2004 19:20 IST

army, politics, india, pakistan, assassination, saviour, extramarital affair, good father, bad father, paratha-feeding mother, ideal son, stepson, distant daughter, tomboy, funny friends, oddball teachers, sexy teachers, countless clichés, makeovers, love, couples, school, college, superman, classrooms, romance, colours, prom nights, violins, saxophones, dream songs, midriffs, cleavage, dream girls, deewar, sholay, mard, gabbar, rickshaws named dhanno, r d burman, grease, kuch kuch hota hai, action, jerry bruckheimer, matrix, mission, impossible, electric guitar, blue-eyed villain, terrorist, bullets, guns, bombs, helicopter, ram, laxman, ramayan, rona dhona, hasna khelna, grease, happy ending, main, hoon, na

Hmm, that's about it, I think — keywords to three hours of non-stop entertainment.

Spell the three magic words — Main Hoon Na — and brace yourself for unlimited action.

How do I describe Main Hoon Na? Let's see. It begins like a Jerry Bruckheimer action flick. It transforms into a Kuch Kuch Hota Hai kind of campus caper. It develops into an emotional Deewar. It goes back into the Bruckheimer mould only to end like the musical Grease.

Offscreen: You are still adjusting your creaky chair ensuring that the popcorn doesn't slip out of your hands.

Onscreen: A television show is taken over by a bunch of terrorists, their leader Raghavan shoots Major Shekhar Sharma (Naseeruddin Shah) when the latter tries to protect General Bakshi (Kabir Bedi). His son, also a major, Ram Prasad (Shah Rukh Khan), makes an Ethan Hunt-style entry amidst a lot of gunshots, firing, mid-air diving, the works.

Bottom line: Bang! Bang! Bang! The plot unfolds at a bullet's pace.

Cut to chase! Cut to St Paul's School, Darjeeling! Cut to railway platform!

Cut! Cut! Cut! One thing at a time.

Flashback: Shekhar Sharma's life is an extension of Shekhar Kapur's Masoom. He has a son (that's Shah Rukh) out of an extramarital affair. Only his wife is no Shabana Azmi. She is Kirron Kher, actually. Unlike Azmi, Kher doesn't accept him and leaves the house with baby Laxman (that's a secret). Now, Sharma's last wish is to see his family reunited again.

General Bakshi's daughter Sanjana (Amrita Rao) — whose life is threatened by the terrorists — studies in the same school as Laxman. So Ram has double duty on his hands. One, be a watchdog to Sanjana. Two, finish his personal Ramayan on a happy note, a la Valmiki.

Enter St Paul's School in ravishing Darjeeling.

Is it a school? Is it a college? No, it's a fancy dress institution.

Confused? Don't worry, main hoon na. See, it's very simple. It's all of these. It's called a school, but functions like a college and all its students dress up like junk food. Seriously, Britney and Eminem could borrow fashion tips from Darjeeling teenagers.

Like one of the character's mom says, &quot;Arre beta, yeh haathon mein kutton ka patta kyun bandh rakha hai?&quot; [Why are you wearing a dog collar on your wrist, son?]

Ram arrives at St Paul's as an undercover student. His first day at school is a disaster. 'Uncle, Budha, Buzurk' is how the students refer to him.

One guy in particular is constantly pestering him. Let's introduce him. He has failed three times. He sleeps during the lectures and parties all night. He forgets to pay the electricity bills. He smokes. He loves to arm-wrestle. He dresses in torn tee-shirts and jeans. His hairstyle resembles a lion's mane. He is Lucky (played by Zayed Khan).

But Ram knows the secret recipe to winning everyone's heart. He rescues Lucky, leading a student to cry out, &quot;Arre yeh Ram toh Rambo nikla.&quot; He also works overtime playing agony aunt to Sanjana, who nurses a crush on Lucky. For once it's not just the tomboy heroine getting a salwar-kameez makeover. Ram makes Lucky go through the whole cut-your-hair-wear-kurta grind, or 'sata savitra', as the latter calls it.

But the real funny moments involve Ram:

* Ram's encounters with the utterly forgetful principal (Boman Irani), who reads Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix and wears ties with Superman or The Seven Dwarfs designed on them. Here's how a regular conversation between the two goes:

Ram: Main yahan kuch aur der rukna chahta hoon, Sir.
Principal: Haan haan, zaroor, magar lunch khakar jaana.
Ram: Mera matlab main school main aur dinon tak rehna chahta hoon, Sir.
Principal: Haan haan, zaroor, graduation karke jaana.

* Ram hiding his face every time he sees his physics teacher Rasai (Satish Shah). Rasai is a walking-talking 'thook' specialist. The man spits without discrimination on every member of the cast from SRK to Sushmita Sen to Amrita Rao to Zayed Khan to Boman Irani.

* Ram getting dancing lessons from the entire school, including the principal.

* Ram breaking into an R D Burman song, accompanied by men on saxophones and violins, every time his chemistry teacher Chandni (Sushmita Sen) makes an appearance. This exchange of dialogue will give you a feel of the intensity of Ram's affection.

Chandni: Itna bade hokar student? How disgusting!
Ram: Itni chhoti hokar teacher? How amazing!

Farah Khan makes a well-choreographed debut. She shows a knack for filmmaking. Her grip on the subject, which changes its tone every 10 minutes, is consistently maintained. Her brand of filmmaking comes across as very MTVish, very spoofish, albeit on a very lavish (read Rs 24 crore) scale. Whether a character echoes Amitabh Bachchan's dialogue, &quot;Mard ko dard nahi hota&quot;, or Shah Rukh takes on the bad guys on a rickshaw named Dhanno, a sense of spoof looms. I don't know if that is intentional.

V Manikandan's cinematography in Kuch Naa Kaho was impressive. Here too he shows his skill with the camera and comes up with cool angles.

Though the music of Main Hoon Na is nothing extraordinary, it fits in with the mood of the film. But action director Allan Amin needs to get over the whole Matrix-Mission Impossible hangover. His action is getting very repetitive.

But I must admit, it's good fun to see Shah Rukh Khan doing so much action. He is Shah Rukh Khan here too. No change there. But that's what Main Hoon Na needs — the superstar Shah Rukh Khan who can win hearts. So his Ram walks about the college grounds like a lost little boy with big brown eyes charming everyone with his dimpled smile and Godbrother-like aura. He bonds warmly with Zayed Khan on screen. Though he looks awkward in some scenes, Zayed shows considerable improvement since his debut, Chura Liya Hai Tumne.

Suniel Shetty in a fierce-looking get-up plays with restraint a terrorist who opposes Indo-Pak peace. There is a hint of ruthlessness in his otherwise gentle disposition when he says, &quot;It's a personal war. It always is.&quot;

Sushmita Sen is magic. She looks beautiful. Chandni is Ram's dream woman in the film. Sushmita transforms into a dream for Main Hoon Na. Amrita Rao has a telling screen presence. She doesn't look awed by any of her co-stars.

Main Hoon Na is a fun film. It doesn't preach. It doesn't go by logic. It isn't realistic. But it's shamelessly entertaining. So if you are looking for 1970s-style entertainment, Main Hoon Na is what I recommend. Enjoy!

Another film that does not live up to its hype! And yes, it is another one of Shahrukh Khan productions that revolves around him (especially the second half) in an attempt to showcase his histrionic abilities. He is our superhero; the perfect son, lover, brother, friend, charmer, dancer, and action hero (does the last bit sound like some kind of joke?)

The film begins with a television interview of the Indian General (Kabir Bedi). All hell breaks loose in the studio when his ex-colleague cum friend Raghavan (Suniel Shetty in a weird looking wig and getup) decides to gun him down. The reason being, Raghavan opposes (someone please tell us why!http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink2.gif the General's attempt at creating peace between India and Pakistan. In the bargain, our superhero, Army Major Ram Sharma's (Shah Rukh Khan) father (Naseeruddin Shah) is gunned down. Before he breathes his last, he tells his son about his wife (Kirron Kher) and son, Laxman (Zayed Khan, who looks like he is straight out of the zoo).

Is that why Ram joins college and pretends to be a college student? The reason is more than personal. He has been assigned the duty of protecting the General's daughter, Sanjana (a cute and wild looking Amrita Rao), who is also studying in the same college with Laxman. Lucky, as Laxman is known on the college campus is one of those cool dude sorts whose attention every girl vies for (including our petite Sanjana).

The first half of the film is fun especially the confrontation scenes between Ram-Lucky. Had the film stuck to the college campus romance and comedy, and mother-son emotions, it would have certainly been more enjoyable fare.

The entire Indo-Pak element, with predictable dialogues takes away from the film. It would be foolhardy to look for flaws in the film. One could write volumes on that. But a couple of points are worth mentioning. The chemistry teacher, Chandni (Sushmita Sen who dresses up like she is hell bent on sparking off chemistry in the classroom with her students) looks mismatched opposite Ram. There is no chemistry at all between the two. It's time Sushmita realized that she is inept at playing a coy, in-love kinda girl. She has a very overpowering screen presence for that. She is expressionless and her romantic scene with Ram lacks emotions.

Amrita looks perky and Zayed is good fun as the brash college kid with a rock star hangover. This film would have been a better debut for him. In fact he steals the show from Shah Rukh in the first half. Suniel Shetty makes no impact. Satish Shah and Bindu are funny. But the man who really deserves mention is Boman Irani as the absent-minded college principal. He is simply superb!

Action by Allan Amin is first rate although slightly over the top at times. The songs are catchy and well-picturized (that's the least Farah can do, considering her impressive track record as a choreographer) and have a fresh look about them. On the one hand while Farah Khan has to be lauded for being the first Indian female director to make a film that is nowhere close to being woman-oriented, on the other hand she deserves brickbats for spending lavish amounts to churn out a typical commercial masala film that we have been enduring since times immemorial. 'Main Hoon Na' is best forgotten as soon as it is over. The second half is a drag and hats off to all those who dare to sit through it!

** (TWO STARS)

Introduction
Farah Khan’s directorial debut is a film which caters to all the audiences that one can think of, barring the intellectual ones. It has no pretence of catering to the grey cells, but is a thorough true blue Bollywood entertainer with “Bichada Bhai” et al.

Synopsis
Major Ram Prasad Sharma (Shah Rukh Khan) is a man on a mission. The mission is “Mission Milaap”. It is a mission to end the long standing animosity amongst the two neighbouring countries India and Pakistan. As is expected, some people do not want this to occur. They include Raghavan (Suniel Shetty in a cool look), who will is hell bent to stop this from happening. He plans to achieve his goal by harming Sanjana (Amrita Rao in a Christina Aguilera get up), who is the daughter of General Amarjeet Bakshi, one of the lead players in the peace move. To thwart Suniel’s plans, it becomes necessary for Shahrukh to go to her college as a student and become her guardian angel. This also could turn into a chance for him to reconcile with his stepbrother Lakshman/Lucky (Zayed Khan -- yes, the same ‘Haath Agarbatti Paav Mombatti’ guy from ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne’, Sanjay and Zarine Khan’s son and Hrithik’s brother in law.) Zayed is a rebellious kid with an attitude, who studies in the same college and tries to be the cool one. Shahrukh needs to fulfil his father Brigadier Shekhar Sharma’s (Naseeruddin Shah) last wish by reconciling with his estranged family including mother (Kiron Kher).
To make the story more interesting, lots of characters are introduced, including the chemistry teacher Chandni Chopra (Sushmita Sen in flowing pastel coloured chiffon saris) who gets to be the object of Shahrukh’s crush, the professor who spits when he talks (Satish Shah), and a forgetful principal (Boman Irani). Suniel Shetty also joins this brigade as a Hindi teacher, and then begins the battle of wits and muscles between him and Shahrukh.

Analysis
Shahrukh is in home territory once again, with heavy emotions, and cute smiles. He was the guy who started experimentation in roles amongst heroes and he is the one who is stuck in a rut. Not that anyone is complaining, as he does his job really well, but it is time that he goes back to his old days. Sushmita Sen looks gorgeous throughout, and is the cynosure of all eyes; even upstaging Amrita Rao. Suniel Shetty does his job pretty well and brings across a multi dimensional character. Zayed Khan looks confused most of the times but gets into element for the emotional scenes. Amrita Rao is fine. Satish Shah and Bindu provide a few laughs. Boman Irani is good, but doesn’t have much scope as this movie was shot in his “pre-Munnabhai MBBS” days.

Technique
If you have seen Farah’s choreography earlier, you must have realised that right from her first song (“Pehla Nasha” from “Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar”) she was adept at storytelling in songs. She has been a director of songs rather than a choreographer. Here she gets a whole movie to tell her story, and she does succeed to a great extent. In this age when experimentation is cool (including pseudo experimenters who rehash the same stuff and give it an experimental feel), it is comforting to see someone who goes back to Bollywood movie basics and churns up a typical masala fare with long lost brothers et al. She has done her homework right. Her assistant on the screenplay front, Abbas Tyrewala and she infuse the right doses of humour, emotions and action. Songs need to be an integral part of this movie considering Farah’s background, and they are shot lavishly. Though the music by Anu Malik hasn’t caught up in a big way yet, it could turn out to do excellent business after people see the way the songs have been shot.

Sidelights
1. The song, 'Chale Jaise Hawaien', shot on Amrita Rao and Zayed Khan has been canned in one shoot with a steadycam and they got it right in five takes. (The song 'Roop Tera Mastana' picturised on Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore, was also done in one single take).
2. When choreographing the “Mehboob Mere” song from “Fiza” on Sushmita Sen, Farah had promised her that she would star in her directorial debut; and true to her word, Farah opted for Sushmita when she was ready to roll.
3. Hrithik Roshan was once a part of the Main Hoon Naa cast and he even shot for a day for the film. The character that Hrithik was to play in the film was that of Shahrukh Khan's younger brother. But things didn't materialize later on and eventually the role went over to his brother-in-law Zayed Khan (Incidentally, Sohail Khan and Dil Chahta Hai director Farhan Akhtar were also considered for the role.).
4. The negative role in this film was first offered to the likes of Nana Patekar, Kamal Haasan and Pankaj Kapur? It was only when they refused that Suniel Shetty was approached and he agreed to play the role.
5. The song ‘Yeh Fizayen’ features each and every crew member of the film in it. The idea was derived from ‘Bombay Dreams’ (for which Farah is a choreographer), which had each crew member coming on stage.
6. It is not a well-known fact that 'Main Hoon Na' was to have originally been produced by Vashu Bhagnani. Farah had narrated the script of the film to Bhagnani two years ago, and he immediately expressed his desire to back the project. Vashu wanted to make it with Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan as the male leads. Since Farah was close to Shah Rukh, the producer had only to talk to Hrithik. But when Farah gave a script narration to Shah Rukh, he liked the subject so much that not only did he agree to act in the film but he also wanted to produce it under his banner.
7. Sushmita's name Chandni Chopra is a play on Yash Chopra's movies, as she wears chiffon saris throughout and Yash Chopra introduced these for his heroines with his film &quot;Chandni&quot;

Verdict
Eminently watchable. Also, if you have any friends who have not yet seen a typical Bollywood film, this is the film to get them hooked on the tradition. Celebration, emotions, humour, action, suspense all in one movie; and that too well presented; is something that hardly comes our way.

<font color='#F660AB'>My Main Hoon Na Review

I watched Main Hoon Na last night at Cineworld Feltham and it was totally house packed. *Not only the 3 shows before me but also the 5 shows after me... When I left my screen, there were queues outside for the Midnight shows. *I'm sure this movie will do very well... But it was no surprise, who else apart from SRK has such a command over the BO in the UK, so much so that this single cinema was showing the movie 15 times a day! http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/clap.gif

After watching Main Hoon Na I was deeply satisfied. *I did not really hold many expectations for this movie, yet any that I did have were surely surpassed!

I'm not going into the story and plot much, but I would like to mention that it was more than I expected. *It concerns the army and a 'project milaap' which wants to release Pakistani POW's in exchange for Indian POW's. *There is a group [Suniel Shetty] that is against this Project. *The movie goes through lots of fun and suspense whilst trying to reslove this problem. SRK is Ram Sharma from the Army who visits a School in Darjeeling to protect Sanjana [Amrita Rao] where he also finds Lucky/Lakshman [Zayed Khan]. *

Direction - Considering this is Farah's maiden project as a Director. *She really has done ever so well.. The movie is directed very well! *Choreography by Farah again was very interesting. *Yes, it had Farah's stamp all over it, but it was in a new and refreshing way. *The Qawali was very well picturised and Tume Jo Maine Dekha was wonderful. *SRK and Sush were oozing with Hotness! Chali Jaisi Hawayein was so cool, and the title song was amazing! *Gori Gori was a great watch, very entertaining! I also loved the part when Ram is taught to dance and they play the Main Hoon Na remix! Beautifull sets too! *Cinematography and Camera Work was all very good indeed! Editing was slick! Sound Design was awesome. *This really was one movie that I could use as a definiton for an Audio-Visual! *The background score was amazing, It really kept your grip. *The music in the Opening Credits was very intriguing! *I loved the usage of the RD Burman Songs in the background too! *Music By Anu Malik is great as we all know, but it looks gorgeous on screen, and the Lyrics by Javed are really cool! Action by Allan Amin was amazing! He probably is the best action director in the country at the moment. All the action and the SFX/Computer Graphics were very well used! The climax was so captivating! Story and Screenplay were very strong and tight... To the piont! *This movie has definately removed Kal Ho Naa Ho from one of my fave movies and replaced it! *

Performances:-

Shah Rukh Khan - He was absolutely wonderful. *Shah Rukh was excellent in the action scenes and he acted brilliantly. *I really cant say anything except that Shah Rukh really was totally awesome! He incorportated the sensibilites of an army officer into his acting, his emotional scenes were good, his comedy was soo cute, great dancing and his action was mind-blowing. And obviously like usual his dialouge delivery was great! *I would rate his performance 9.5/10. *There's not really anything more that I could expect from him! Shah Rukh Khan left me breathless!

Zayed Khan - Even though he was not the first choice for this role, it is difficult to imagine anyone else in Lucky's role. *The role seems to be tailor made for him. *He brings a lot of innocence and genuiness to the character. *He was truly excellent in his portrayal. *Hopefully, this movie will definatley boost his career. I would rate his performance 9/10. *He was great in his cool dude scenes, very natural, great dialouge delivery, cool dancing, was very good in Chali Jaisi Hawyein [considering it was a one shot song]... and he was good in the emotional scenes too... What more can you ask for? IMO Nothing!

Amrita Rao - This is one of her finest performances. *Definately a notch higher than her portrayal in Masti. *She acts the role of Sanju with total ease. *She was very natural, and her dialouge delivery was great (better than in Masti...) *She dances very well in the Qawali and in Chali Jaise Hawayein [one shot song!] *She was also great in the emotional scenes... And she looked beautiful... I would rate her performance 8/10.

Sushmita Sen - She was totally adorable in her role. *This movie will definatley see to it that Sush gets many more movies in her kitty. *Never has Sushmita looked so gorgeous before. *Credit to Manish Malhotra! *She did not have much scope to her character but she definately added to the movie. *SRK and Sushmita looked really hot together. *Her entrance recieved many applauses! http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I would rate her performance 8/10.

Suniel Shetty - He was awesome in his role. * I really cannot imagine anyone else playing this role with so much conviction! *He was Raghavan! *Kamal Hassan and Nana Patekar really would not have suited this role at all! * He acted so well... And I loved his look in the movie! *He really was evil! *I would rate his performance 9/10.

The Supporting Cast -
Satish Shah was hillarious! His character was soo funny...
Boman Irani was excellent. *He's really a great actor! *He fitted the character soo well, and his dialouge delivery was great!
Bindu was hillarious! I loved her dialouge when SRK is runing on the roof &quot;Hai! Maino Aag Lag Jave&quot; Hillarious! She was wonderful!
Kabir Bedi was apt in his role as were Naseerudin Shah and Kiron Kher.
Tabu's blink-and-miss appearance was cute...

The End Credits -
Using Yeh Fizayein in the credits at the end was really very cool indeed. For once the whole audience stayed seated to watch the end credits http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Usually its just me and my sisters! LOL! *Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra, Javed Akhtar, Farah Khan, Anu Malik and all the others looked soo cute... It was soo funny when the Venus guy was standing there with a cheque and SRK came and Ran away with the Cheque!

There are so many memorable scenes from the movie! I surely cannot wait to watch it again!

This IMO is the best movie this year so far... followed by Murder and Masti! The year of the M's! *The movie gives you pure entertainment and nothing less! It is a wonderful watch... It is surely one to be watched on the Big Screen! *This movie delivers what it promised... A total desi entertainer... with sugar on top and a cherry on the side! http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/clap.gif

Great Review, Crazy4kajol. Very Insightful, informative and well-rounded. I was expecting SRK to be excellent in the comic scenes, but good to know that he also packed a punch in the action ones. Thanks for taking the time and effort for sharing your thoughts about the movie. Appreciate it.

<font color='#348781'>A COMPLETELY SHAH RUKH COMEDY - Smashits.com

By P. Shukla

Critic's I-view

Shah Rukh Khan has been lucky. His 'Devdas' did a roaring business in India and abroad. His home production 'Chalte Chalte' fetched him a lot of money. Then he did 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' for newcomer Nikhil Advani and won many accolades. No matter he did get best actor award for his last film, but he did wonders for many newcomers. He also did 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' with Karan though no body believed in the latter's caliber. Farah Khan, the famous choreographer of Bollywood, had got a promise from Shah Rukh long back to get a film from his banner as a director. Efforts were made years back and Hrithik Roshan and Kamal Hasan were supposed to be part of the project. Things got delayed and Zayed replaced Hrithik, and Suniel Shetty got the role that was meant for Kamal Hasan initially. Any way the film got the support of Shah Rukh Khan. Juhi Chawla and Aziz Mirza got busy in another schedule. So the film could not get the banner of the three, Dreamz Unlimited. Shah Rukh opened a new company Red Chillies Entertainment for Farah, and Venus, the Music Company, got associated with the project.

The film saw the light of the day and Farah got the verdict of the viewers in her favor. 'Main Hoon Naa' may not be a very brilliant movie about which one could go ga-ga, but it does entertain. Farah did not promise any thing extraordinary. She made a masala film, which can remind one about typical masala fare used by the likes of Man Mohan Desai and Prakash Mehra. 'Main Hoon Naa' is neither a goodie- goodie film of Johar and Chopra's genre. It has everything in it. Yes, this is the promise Farah made to the viewers and she has stuck to it.

Two siblings get separated by destiny or by infidelity. Shekhar Sharma (Naseeruddin Shah in a special appearance) is an army officer. He has a son and a beautiful wife (Kiran Kher). One day a boy with a letter from Shekhar's mistress lands in their home. His mother is dead and he has no other place than to take shelter in his father's house. A battle of morals hots up and Shekhar's wife with her son leaves home. Twenty years later, Shekhar is killed in an encounter with militants. He takes promise from his illegitimate son Ram Prasad Sharma (Shah Rukh Khan), who is also an officer in army, that he will find out his brother and stepmother and then only will disperse his ashes in the Ganges. On the parallel track is Project Milap, a friendship gesture intimated by the Indian Army to release some Pakistani prisoners and extend hand of friendship to the neighbor who has been an enemy for over 50 years since independence. There are people who do not like this friendly talks between the two countries and threaten to kill General Bakshi (Kabir Bedi)'s daughter Sanjana (Amrita Rao) if he does not abort the project. So, Major Ram is sent as an undercover to Sanjana's school for protection and guess as what?

He joins the school as a student. Fellow students make joke of him led by Lucky who is none other than Ram's lost brother Laxman Prasad Sharma. Ram finds place in Lucky's home and also wins his heart including his mother's. The D-day for Project Milap reaches nearer and the leader of the militant group Raghavan (Suniel Shetty) kidnaps Sanjana. What will Major Ram do now? His brother Lucky too is in the custody of militants and so are dozens of other students? How will Lucky's mother react when she comes to know that Ram is none else but the same child who made her leave her husband's place 20 years back? All this and more is there in this three- hour and eight- minute long film, loaded with peppy music and some exuberant performances by its cast.

'Main Hoon Naa' completely belongs to Shah Rukh Khan. He is there in every frame; sometime as an army officer, sometime as a son, and in another scene as a friendly brother and then as a singer of hit romantic numbers of seventies, 'Chand Mera Dil, Chandni Ho Tum?'. There are some other good old songs used in the film very beautifully and are interspersed with the story. Shah Rukh has chosen a risky role and it is brave of him to have accepted his age on reel and moved on to do the roles that are nearer to his growing image. There are not many actors who will make the film with their own money and will dare make a joke of their character. Shah Rukh is just lovable in the film and takes it on his shoulders till the end.

Sushmita Sen shares very erotic vibes with SRK. She looks beautiful. Amrita Rao tries to work very hard (and that shows on screen too!http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink2.gif. She looks attractive too. Zayed Khan has got an opportunity to showcase his energy in the right role. He has promises for coming days. The surprise item of the film is Suniel Shetty. Shah Rukh in a recent interview has equaled him with Amjad Khan in 'Sholay', but it looks rhetoric after seeing the film. Suniel has lost another good opportunity to resurrect his career. His character looks very shaky and even his dialogues don't have much punch.

The most entertaining and promising are the movie's songs and going by the fact that Farah Khan is master of that, there are songs that give value for the money spent on the ticket. The title song 'Dil Se Mil Ke Dil Ka Hai Kya Haal' and the 'Gori Gori' number are the instant hits and will attract more audience. The film may not be the flavor of the season but you can pass three hours without getting bored. You may not feel like leaving the hall when the songs play on the screen. Watch it for Shah Rukh's marvelous comedy.

There´s something about Bollywood choreographers, and their ability to make decent film directors. The late Kamal (Chahoonga Main Tujhe) and B.H. Tarun Kumar (Nayee Padosan) have already proven that a &quot;dance master&quot; can also direct a semi-tolerable movie. But super-successful young´un Farah Khan, with her first foray behind the megaphone, trumps both the dudes with a wallop. Her &quot; Main Hoon Na&quot; is like a David Dhawan and Manmohan Desai superhit, with all the drama, comedy, music, romance, panache and mind-numbing twists in the tale to match. That any person can make it all mesh together in a package this entertaining is applause worthy.

If you´re looking for any semblance of realism though, be prepared to be disappointed. (Actually, if you like realism, why are you watching commercial Hindi cinema at all?) It is geared fully at the ten-year old in you, so if you scolded him/her to a corner of your brain not seen in donkeys´ years, you will hate Main Hoon Na with a passion. The story line is so clearly the brainwave of a soul who has seen a million too many Hindi and English movies in her life. The dying wish of Major Ram Sharma´s (Shahrukh Khan) father is that he search out and reunite with his &quot;family&quot;, a stepmother (Kirron Kher) and stepbrother (Zayed Khan). (Why do film characters only remember the important stuff when they are about to kick the bucket?) You see, over 20 years ago, Sharma Senior (Naseeruddin Shah) had committed a &quot;Masoom&quot; affair and Ram was the product.

At the same time, it is Ram´s duty to infiltrate the college of his commanding officer´s daughter, Sanjana (Amrita Rao), and protect her from the clutches of evil Raghavan (a masked Suneil Shetty). Raghavan is trying at all costs to destroy the Indian Army´s plans to create friendship with Pakistan, as he believes the neighboring &quot;enemy&quot; killed his son years earlier. Ram must enter Sanjana´s high fun, little study college incognito as an elderly student trying to complete his studies. Mohabbatein style though, he imparts the message of love to all and sundry. And with the Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge style deceit of a live-in board, he tries to win back the love of his mother and brother. Sharma &quot;Junior Junior&quot; (aka Lakshman) just so happens to study at the same institution as Sanjana. (It is such a SMALL world after all.) Will Ram or Raghavan succeed?

If the story appeals to you, you need to introduce yourself to the world of literature and intelligence. But on a visual level though, Farah Khan will surprise you with how interestingly and enjoyably she unfolds it all on the big screen. Ms. Khan has obviously learnt a lot of very important lessons from her years in the industry.

First, she knows the audience hates old wine in an old bottle. Familiar territory is fine, but it needs to be presented in a different fashion for us not to get annoyed. Hence, the screenplay is pretty crisp. There are no otherwise expected reuniting family sermons for forty minutes at the end of the tale. And she makes sure the Pakistan and India message is one of comraderie instead of battle. (It is a nice effort even if it is a paradox for brainless cinema such as this.) And the college sequences and characters are quite different than the ones we have witnessed before.

Second, she gives credit where it is due. The over-the-top Matrix fighting (with a hilarious bodily fluid gag), Sholay with Basanti and Dhano cycle chases, Yash Chopra style heroine look, and odes to R.D. Burman tunes are all done with respect and class. The very novel format of the credits at the end, in particular, is testament of Farah´s acknowledgement that she alone has not contributed in making the venture a success.

And finally, she keeps the pace quick enough that you have little time to question the nonsense and childishness. The violins and uncontrollable singing whenever Ram sees Chandni (Sushmita Sen), the academic failure cum &quot;role model&quot; of the college, Hindi teacher who spouts anything but Hindi to her students, and the clowny, forgetful principal. It may make no sense, but you cannot deny it is barrels of fun. Along with the story, where Farah fails (like many others in the past) is the self-indulgence and inordinate length. There´s no real message to justify the three plus hours with our butts glued to the seat. Clearly, Ms. Khan could have avoided some of those zillion flashback sequences and character back-stories. All the scenes are enjoyable, but come on, the audience is not so dumb that we need explanations for everything.

The cast and crew though, largely, helps the director recover. Shahrukh Khan has not given this good a performance since Dil Se (199http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool2.gif or Pardes (1997). I can´t help but feel he is at his best when he is suitably restrained, because any non-actor can succeed with roles requiring monkey like behaviour (Chalte Chalte or Kal Ho Naa Ho), but few are good in roles demanding composure and histrionics with the eyes and voice. As Major Ram Sharma, I will happily concede, Shahrukh Khan proves he is an acting talent that is wasted by most other directors. It is one of his career´s best performances.

Zayed Khan is okay, and suits the weird guy in the first half of his role, but is often too awkward in his delivery. (The fact that the ladies in the audience kept screaming &quot;ewww&quot; every time he came on the screen also, does not bode well for his long-term career prospects. For Zayed´s sake, he better hope they were grossed out because of the greasy long hair and girly styling instead of just him.)

Amrita Rao is great as the real female lead for the movie, but don´t you get the feel that she is a copy of the more gorgeous Mahima Chaudhary in terms of personality and acting style. (Their voices, too, also match to a tee.)

With all due respects and love to my gorgeous wife, Sushmita Sen is ethereal in her all too brief role. The fact that this enormously talented and stunningly beautiful woman has never gotten her due from Bollywood will remain a mystery for centuries to come, but each time she does a movie, she delivers a performance different from the one she last gave us, and each time it´s a pleasant surprise. In the video for &quot;Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha&quot;, Ms. Sen´s sex appeal had my jaw drop to the ground, burrow itself through the earth´s core, and shoot out the other side of the planet. I´ve got my face back together now, but the worms, dirt and molten ash are still stuck between my teeth.

The success for the songs and look for Ms. Sen, should also be given to music director Anu Malik, Farah as choreographer, cinematographer V. Manikandan, costume designer Manish Malhotra and the set designer, who deliver consistent excellence for the rest of the movie.

It was a true pleasure to watch a good masala pot-boiler after such a long time. For a while there, it seemed like Bollywood had forgotten how to make these staple brainless movies which were a dime a dozen in the seventies and eighties. Of all people, it took a woman like Farah Khan to revive the genre. Let´s just hope her talent and movies continue to get better from here.

<span style='color:hotpink'>I saw it on Friday night!!

It was in the big screen @ Cineworld Felthem and omg it was house packed... Even for the show after, when I was leaving (at around 11:30/12:00...) it was house packed too http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/clap.gif This film is gonna KICKASS for sure!

It's one of my fave films EVER... It's amazing.. I think it's one of my 'best films' from the past couple of years... It was SOO good... A total entertainer... All the masalla and everything... GREAT..!! GREAT...!! SOO COOL...!! AMAZING FILM! :sloppy:

Story? Really good... This is the first 'Indo Pak' film I've loved so much... They made it watchable, they made it so that you don't fall asleep! Story was very good.

Screenplay? Even better... This is where the story developed (duh lol)... And this is what made the story different to others of similar concepts... Not your rough, sandy, colourless Indo Pak film... It's colourful, young, very today and will really kickass in the overseas market for definite...

Direction? Farah Khan is here to stay! One of THE best directorial debuts I have ever seen! She shocked the life outa me  I never knew she was capable of this but she proved me wrong!! WELL DONE FARAH!! And best thing is this woman has directed a film which is not woman centric and wannabe... It's what she likes and that's why it shows how she put her heart an soul into it... God bless her! :sloppy:

Music? ANUUUUU darling I LOVE UUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!! :sloppy: He IS the BEST... !!

Action? AMAZING...!!! One of the best action films Ive ever seen... The action was stunning, it was really reallllly good...

Editting, Cinematography, Dialogues... were all great... Well done to all the crew for doing such a wonderful job... Everyone was great.

Anyone else woulda looked like a bigass fool :P Zayed was MADE to do this role... He's one of my fave newcomers and Insha Allah he'll make it really big one day - he truly deserves it

NEW DELHI: Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Main Hoon Na may have opened to great initial collections in the domestic circuit, but it did not live up to the expectations in the overseas market in terms of gross collections.

In the first three days, the masala mix of this back-to-school-patriotic-family drama is estimated to have grossed around $5.7 lakh in the US market, while the figure was around the 3 lakh pound mark in the UK (Thursday-Sunday). *

This opening is slightly better than what King Khan's 2003-hit Chalte Chalte's initial gross was at the US and UK box offices, but *does not match up to openings by other SRK hits like Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Na Ho .

The Shah Rukh Khan-Rani Mukherjee starrer Chalte Chalte had opened with collections of around 0.28 million pounds in the UK market with 37 prints. With a similar number of prints, SRK's second hit for the year, Karan Johar's Kal Ho Na Ho grossed 0.43 million pounds in the opening weekend.

The 2001-superhit Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham continues to top the chart in UK for the best opening for a Bollywood film at 0.47 million pounds with 40 plus prints. Main Hoon Na had opened last week with 45 prints.

In fact, SRK continues to remain the most popular actor in the UK market with eight of his films featuring in the Top 10 best opening chart for any Indian movie.

In United States, most in the trade expect MHN to match up to that of KHNH at the box office.

However, going by the opening, at $0.55 million with 55-odd prints, MHN does better than Chalte Chalte ($0.48 million), but is way behind Kal Ho Na Ho ($0.75 million) and Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham ($1 million).

Farah Khan's directorial debut with its Manmohandesaieque storyline and treatment with a contemporary look-and-feel is expected to fare better in domestic territories, especially so in smaller towns and cities.

With weekend collections in excess of 90 per cent, most in the trade are confident that they have a winner in their hand. As per industry estimates, the gross domestic weekend collections (with around 325 prints) is likely to be in the range of Rs 5 crore and Rs 6 crore.

With several holidays lined up in the current week, the first week's all-India gross collection is expected to cross the Rs 11-crore mark.

&quot; There may not be many repeat audiences for this family entertainer, but with its universal appeal it is likely to do better in smaller towns and cities,&quot; says a Delhi-based exhibitor.

The target audience for this movie is considered wider than that for Chalte Chalte and Kal Ho Na Ho in the domestic market . Most in the distribution fraternity feel that the Rs 25-crore film will begin to recover its costs from second week onwards.

Main Hoon Na has been a safe bet for producers Shah Rukh Khan and Ratan Jain of Venus Films who are said to have made over the table profits at the time of release. *However, it is still early days Main Hoon Na.

The coming days will show if SRK's masala fare will be able to keep up the momentum.

<font color='#348781'>'Main Hoon Na' costings - The actual cost

Everyone's wondering what the budget of MAIN HOON NA is like. Some say it's 25, a few put the figure at 30, while a few desk-job specialists have gone overboard in stating that the film has cost its producers 35 [ridiculous!].

You cannot make an SRK starrer within 10 crores in today's times. And if it's a well-padded film like MAIN HOON NA [cast, locations, huge sets, action scenes, production expenses, special effects], the cost is bound to be on the higher side.

The question is, did the film go over-budget? Yes, it did. Originally, SRK and director Farah Khan had estimated that the budget would touch 20, but as the film progressed, the expenses did escalate and the final budget at the time of release was Rs. 24.70 crores, inclusive of everything.

“The action scenes add up to the expenses under normal circumstances and our film was no exception,” Farah reveals, “I knew that the budget might cross 20 eventually. But after watching the film, if a section of the film industry feels that MAIN HOON NA must've cost 30 or 35 to make, that's a compliment for me [laughs].”

<font color='#348781'>BUSINESS TALK By Taran Adarsh

SRK HAIN NA

It's time to rejoice… The month of April commenced on a positive note [MURDER] and has ended on a much better note - with the keenly anticipated SRK starrer MAIN HOON NA opening to a thunderous response not only in the domestic market, but also in the West.

Oh, how could we ever forget MASTI, released in the second week of April? The laughathon also contributed in boosting the sagging morale of an industry that was desperately waiting for a hit to come by.

April is considered a crucial month. And there is a rationale that prompts the producers and distributors to think that way.

First and foremost, thanks to the commencement of summer vacations, the youth has ample time to watch movies. The volume of business shows an upswing from April onwards and you know the reason why!

Two, the summer vacations in India last till mid-June [that's when schools and colleges re-open]. So, obviously, all producers/distributors insist on releasing their films in these months, when the business is at an all-time high.

If you go through the release schedule, you'll realize that the biggest of movies are parked in the forthcoming weeks. Which producer, in his right senses, wouldn't desire to release his film during this period?

April 2004 was no exception. The month witnessed a number of new releases and if the month had its share of turkeys in the form of MEENAXI, KRISHNA COTTAGE, BARDAASHT and SHAADI KA LADDOO, it also had its share of successes - three success stories to be precise.

All eyes were on MAIN HOON NA and rightly so!

The expectations from the film were manifold, also because SRK has produced the film himself [in association with Venus]. Expectedly, the film took a flying start everywhere, silencing those who felt that SRK minus the Johars and Chopras would not really find as many takers.

The opening weekend collections were better than KAL HO NAA HO at several places [in U.P., K.H.N.H. did not open too well, while MAIN HOON NA had a thunderous start despite heavy rains lashing most parts of the state] and at par with DEVDAS [in Mumbai, almost all theatres had been sold-out in advance booking itself].

Although the film has met with mixed reactions from the paying public [like it happens with every big film!], what really worries me is the trend of badmouthing a film even though the collections continue to be rock-steady.

Notwithstanding the response to the film, a section of the industry loves to indulge in loose talk and spread malicious rumours [so desperate to get noticed!]. It happened years ago with HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN, it happened more recently with K3G, KOI… MIL GAYA and KAL HO NAA HO and its happening all over again, with MAIN HOON NA.

But does it really make a difference? If a film has to succeed, it will succeed at all costs. Despite mud-slinging. Regardless of loose talk indulged by rival distributors. Despite negative reviews.

And MAIN HO NA is a success story. In India. In Overseas. The business of the film is for all to see. And that should silence the nincompoops once and for all!

<font color='#348781'>'Main Hoon Na' U.S., U.K. figures: Awesome

By Taran Adarsh, May 05th, 2004 - 1615 hrs IST

Here are the actual figures of MAIN HOON NA in the Overseas territory. The opening weekend [April 30 to May 2, 2004] figures in U.S.A. and U.K. clearly indicate that the latest SRK starrer has met with super-success in the international market.

In the U.S., the opening weekend figures are $ 704,000 on 82 prints [approx. Rs. 3.14 crores], the average per print working out to U.S. $ 8,585.

The average per print of MAIN HOON NA is next to MEAN GIRLS [$ 8,606], but more than MAN ON FIRE [$ 5,028], GODSEND [$ 2,928] and other new releases.

MAIN HOON NA has entered the U.K. charts by grossing £ 322,290 [approx. Rs. 2.58 crores] on 41 screens, the average per print working out to £ 7,860, which is better than KILL BILL VOL 2 [£ 3,560], ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND [£ 3,048] and other new releases.

In U.K., MAIN HOON NA is No. 1 as far as per print average is concerned.

<font color='#348781'>'Main Hoon Na set to be a huge hit'

While the producers of the current week’s big ticket flick — Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na — had reportedly made table profits (out of territory sales) even before the film opened, trade analysts and distributors insist the movie will turn out to be a winning proposition for exhibitors and distributors as well.

The film has recorded a near 100 per cent opening collection, says Komal Nahta, editor, Film Information. “And at the current rate, distributors should begin to reap profits in about four to five weeks,” he adds.

Choreographer-turned-filmmaker Khan’s directorial debut reportedly cost around Rs 22 crore in the making, and had sold for an unprecedented Rs 4.51 crore in the crucial Bombay territory alone — which covers Gujarat and parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Says Denis Selarka of Sri Ashtvinayak, the Bombay territory distributors who coughed up the huge price: “The amount paid actually looks economical now. The film is a ‘super duper’ hit and though it’s difficult to ascribe a time line, we should recover our investment in about four weeks.”

Kishore Lulla, CEO of London-based Eros Entertainment, which holds the overseas rights of Main Hoon Naa, displays the opening draw figures to the tune of $700,000 for the American market and 430,000 pounds in the UK. “We don’t calculate in terms of percentages, but I should think the first week draw was close to a decent 95 per cent,” says Lulla.

What’s peculiar, according to film trade analysts, is that the film has been taken well by audiences in smaller towns, and north Indian markets like Bihar and UP — traditionally not a stronghold for Shah Rukh Khan starrers.

Confirms Vinod Mirani, editor, Box Ofice, “The film has done remarkably well across the board. The action component of the film is suited to North Indian audiences, especially in the Hindi belt.

Usually Shah Rukh’s romantic hero image is best accepted among the discerning lot in Western India who may become disappointed in the long run.”

So far, disappointment is nowhere in sight as the film is set for a home run, not just through ticket sales, but also video and satellite rights, which Mirani informs, is on offer at a whopping Rs 2 crore and Rs 10 crore respectively.

Yeah outta those 10, 8 are SRK movies... and the other 2 were YRF related http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biglaugh.gif KMG was distributed by YRF and MDK was produced by YRF....

SRK and YRF kick ass... its something to do with the number 3 i guess http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

But NOW Koi Mil Gaya would be OFF that list http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif because Main Hoon Na entered just below Kal Ho Naa Ho and just above Chalte Chalte... meaning 9/10 SRK movies.... and the other *MDK* a YRF *YAY*

<font color='#FF7F00'>Hi again guys, missed you all much. http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I watched MHN already. &nbsp; My verdict? &nbsp;Amrita Rao has chemistry with SRK... http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Okay, with all the previous reviews, you would already know the story line, but my opinion on the performance differs a bit...

Unlike in most of his other films, SRK's acting is subtle in the movie - and that actually appeals a lot more to me. &nbsp;

I was really excited to see him with Sush because I like her. But I as rather disppointed coz the chemistry is not there with SRK. &nbsp; No doubt she's really really beautiful in the movie, but I don't know, despite looking for more, i can't see her click with SRK. &nbsp;Maybe because she looks too sophisticated...?

Surprisingly though, SRK clicks well with Amrita. &nbsp;I also like her before MHN, but I didn't expect to see any chemistry between her and SRK. &nbsp;Well no chemistry intended as they were not paired together, but those scenes they were together, they looked matched, and I did wish that SRK ends up with her instead... (I know that's a bit unexpected, but hey, it is just my feelings when I watched MHN... &nbsp;http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif )

Another comment is on the credits - very well done. &nbsp;Though I thought Gauri should join the fun as well. &nbsp; She's the only one not picturised in the credits though she is the producer.

Well that's SRK in MHN.... when is Kajol coming back? He looks lonely in all his recent films... the industy is correct, he is missing his reel partner, and finding her replacement proves to be a steep uphill task &nbsp; http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

I saw this movie last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It deserves to get a SuperHit status, very entertaining and had everything from comedy, romance, action and melodrama. I was very impressed with SRK after a long time, he was so natural without a hint of his off-late patented 5 expressions and practically carried the movie on his shoulders. Back to being a SRK fan after this one. Funny, I kept seeing Kajol in SRK *in some scenes, esp in the scene where he is saying goodbye as he is leaving the school ( KKHH scene where Kajol is leaving the summer camp).Anyways, *definitely worth watching even a second time in the theater. *
*I also liked the SRK- Sush pairing probably becoz Sush did not try so hard to have a chemistry going between her and SRK,(not like someone we know who likes to simper a lot and ingratiate herself into the camp as the next Kajol ). ThankGod that Farah did'nt have a strong romantic thread for SRK and I think that appealed a lot to Kajol fans like me who think of SRK as exclusively Kajol's property. Sush had this amused, cool look most of the time plus she looked H0T. I hope this movie does wonders for her career, she deserves a break.

2. How long was Sushmita's appearnce in the film http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/image28.gif I heard she doesn;t have too many scenes !? Okay, Sush didn't show up until towards the middle of the movie cause she was the new Chemistry teacher. &nbsp; She was in most of the songs too. &nbsp; Her appearance is like Ash in Mohabbatein. &nbsp; Not like a ghost but for her to come appear in some scenes but in most of the songs.

Sarah and Shaima, It's a pity you can't watch this in the theater as it's so rich and colorful.Farah Khan really amazed me with her ability to hit all the right buttons in her very first movie. She kept the viewer mesmerized the whole length of the movie which is awesome as we tend to get bored so easily and the best part is that she did'nt need 6 superstars to help her with that--she had newcomers for the most part and SunilShetty and Sush who are not great BO draws. Amrita Rao looked so cute and natural and made a good pair with Zayed. I just got the DVD for Masti, did'nt find time to watch it yet, so I can't comment on the Vivek-Amrita pairing.
* Sush comes in about 7-8 scenes overall and has a small role perhaps, but is presented so well that she leaves a mark. SRK and Sush share a sexy song which was watchable as usually I FF any hot scenes of SRK with heroines other than Kajol ( I still did'nt see ChalteChalte although i have the DVD lying around !!http://www.kajol-boards.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink2.gif. Sarah, SRK-Sush chemistry was Good, not great, but just Good. I thought he had zero chem with Preity in KHNH although they had a romantic scene or 2. In MHN, the romance did not look forced and Farah kept it at the level so Kajol fans would not get put off by SRK's antics with the heroine ( read CC, Ashoka ).
Shaima, the song is HOT and Sush wears very daring outfits, but believe it or not, I liked their pairing here. I did'nt see the trailers of this song, but when they cut and paste stuff, they make it look more than it really is.

<font color='#32CD32'>My review

Main Hoon Na (I'm here now) - It seems like I only watch Shahrukh films in the theatre. &nbsp;Where is my love for Arjun and John? &nbsp; It's cause Shahrukh films are usually subtitled in the theatre. &nbsp;I know that Hrithik films are too. &nbsp;Shahrukh and Hrithik are the two most popular actors in India. &nbsp; The last films I saw in the theatre that were subtitles are Devdas, Yaadein, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham, Mujhse Dosti Karoge, etc - so yeah, seems to be all Shahrukh and &nbsp;Hrithik movies. &nbsp; &nbsp;Their movies are Internationally known and more high budgeted. &nbsp; In addition, their films usually take longer to come out on dvd than others.

I was confused when I first heard about Main Hoon Na. &nbsp; Some people told me it was a war movie. &nbsp;Others say it is a college movie. &nbsp;I didn't know what to think. &nbsp; The reason for all the confusion is because Main Hoon Na has it all!! &nbsp;Action, comedy, drama, love, you name it! &nbsp; There is no logic of genres to the film but the film is purely a masala flick. &nbsp; The songs are not the best. &nbsp; It grows on you. &nbsp;I didn't like Kal Ho Naa Ho songs at first but now I do. &nbsp; The songs are choreographed beautifully also.

The Shahrukh/Sushmita pairing was sooooooo adorable and cute. &nbsp;I thought they would look really funny together cause of their height but it's not noticeable. &nbsp;Sush is too gorgeous and amazing. &nbsp;I was disappointed that she didn't have a big role like I would want her to but just looking at her...wow! &nbsp;Everytime she came on screen - the guys in the theatre would whistle!

Oh gosh, Shahrukh is soooooooo hot in the movie. &nbsp;Everyone knows that I have never said that about him before but gosh, he actually took his own lines from Kal Ho Naa Ho in this film....&quot;yes, I know I'm sexy.&quot; &nbsp;

Zayed is okay. &nbsp;I think his character is funny. &nbsp;Hated his long hair...thank goodness he cuts it later. &nbsp; He looks soooo cute with short hair! &nbsp;I think he looks more like Hrithik's brother than his brother-in-law. &nbsp; Both have similar features. &nbsp;Amrita is just too cute. &nbsp; The girl is good. &nbsp;I'm glad she is getting new roles. &nbsp; She does a great job acting and had more screen time than Sush did. &nbsp; She looks like a young Sonali Bendre. &nbsp;Very innocent, youthful looking. &nbsp;Suniel is good. &nbsp; He is so underrated. &nbsp;Glad he is being noticed more now.

Storyline wise. &nbsp;As mentioned before, too many genres but the film is worth a watch. &nbsp;The movie isn't realistic or anything but hey, which film do you know is lately? &nbsp;Farah Khan did a good job in her debut directional movie. &nbsp;No wonder the choreography was great cause she's the queen of that. &nbsp;I didn't know Shahrukh's wife Gauri produced the film. &nbsp;Too bad she wasn't shown for the credits towards the end. &nbsp;

Rating - 8 out of 10

As for the film being realistic or not, i never think of it when i watch a film, as long as its a good film, WHo needs realism in films yaaar, everything is to depressing and we watch films to be happy and optimistic.. we need feel good movies, i don't like watching films that are too realistic and depressing.. *
